I just watched a video of it on the P&J. Is it not just lightening?

I'm not in Scotland, but saw it on the BBC News website this morning www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-35689551. It looks a bit like lightning from that dash cam footage, but according to the written reports it appears it was something quite different.

Yes! We were driving from Glasgow to East Kilbride and DH said 'did you see that lightning?'

Oh me! We're in West Lothian and I was walking the dog. I thought it was the strangest thing- thought I was imagining things!

I just read the first article. I didn't hear a bang. I just saw the sky light up and it was very fast, but nothing like lightening. It was more like an all encompassing roll of light throughout the sky.

Wow, I just saw a different video, and take back what I said earlier! That looks way more exciting than lighting!

That explains a lot! I got in from work last night and dh said he'd heard a bang and the house shook - he'd had a look round but couldn't find anything. We're near Arbroath so guess that is what it was.
I wasn't aware of anything driving home.

I have a lot of friends in NE Scotland. Lots of chat about this today. No one seems to know what it was but everyone is saying it's not lightening.

I have seen the 2 lots of footage from people's dash cams - it looked awesome but it's a bit scary not knowing what it was.

Gutted I missed it! Pretty certain it was a meteor...
