Where can I go with DS that won't cost a fortune at Easter?

DH can't get time off so it is just the 2 of us. We are in Perthshire but I am coming up blank. Thoughts?

Travel by car or public transport?
Age of DS?
How many days?
Which dates at easter?
What do you enjoy doing?
What's the budget?

Hotel/Self catering?

Oh Christ I am crap

He's 7. Likes swimming and a bit of soft play. I like a book and wine.
Would like a couple of nights somewhere and we are first week of April for holidays.

Budget isn't huge!

Okay suggestions of various cost:

Hilton Coylumbridge or somewhere else in aviemore area. Has pool and Highland Wildlife centre, Highland Folk museum, Landmark centre plus travel into Inverness for shops/cinema/even better pool.

Or could do Inverness - look for a Premier Inn

Premier Inn or Holiday Inn express, look for deals.

City Break to York/Newcastle/Manchester/London - look for a deal on the train.

Haven caravan or Hoseasons - Fife/Ayr/Lake district.

Edinburgh? again premier Inn. Museum, Pool etc. Usually have a Science fair thing on around Easter time.

As a single adult I'd say more cost effective booking a hotel room. Crieff Hydro used to give me a single person discount. Fab place to be on your own with children because there is free childcare so you can have some alone time, and enough to do with kids when you want to.

Coylumbridge is a good shout. Loads to do and very child friendly. Landmark is probably the very best park I've been to (and we've done Disney, Alton Towers etc)

Might get a good deal in a Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee or Aberdeen hotel as there won't be the demand for rooms for businesses over Easter. Loads to do in each city:

Glasgow: Science Centre, Transport museum, Scotland St School
Edinburgh: Dynamic earth, Camera Obscura, Castle
Dundee: Verdant works, Discovery point, Unicorn
Aberdeen: beach, Satrosphere, Codonas, loads of parks

How about the youth hostel at Berwick on Tweed for a cheaper option. Lovely new hostel with family rooms. Good swimmimg pool nearby with at least one flume. Fab secondhand bookshop - Berrydin books and another book cafe. Day trip to Alnwick to go to Barter books, the castle, swimming pool and think there is also a soft play. Agree Crieff Hydro etc would be nice but this would be a fun budget option.

Or go to Dumfries and Galloway. Wigtown for the lovely second hand bookshops then lots of good value kids places like Mabie Farm Park, Cream of Galloway.

Lots of great places to go in D&G (Holiday destination of the year apparently!)

I'd just worry that it would be busy and therefore expensive during the Easter break. Cream o' Galloway great place to spend a day and they do make your own ice cream workshops. There's also Dalscone and fabulous beaches.

I'm heading for a week in July to beattock, Dumfries n Galloway. I'm from Glasgow.
Iv rented a lodge/chalet type place for under £400, 3 bedrooms.nothing fancy but mainly exploring anyway.(wildwood lodge)
We are planing to go to cream o Galloway, dalscone farm fun, drumlanrig castle. And probs some beaches. All fairly inexpensive places I think.

The Galloway Activity centre is fab if you are adventurous. We booked a days worth of activities and did Sailing, Laser tag, Archery and Windsurfing. They do have some accommodation though some of it is quite basic :) We didn't stay there we stayed in a nearby hotel. Kitty's tea room was a must visit.

We quite like York for a few days away. Premier Inns can be quite cheap. If not I would consider Edinburgh or Glasgow. If you have club card vouchers you could change them into days out vouchers or restaurant ones X
