Can he still be SLab leader?

I hope so, I know him and he's a good man.

If he also fails to get into holyroodci reckon he can't though.

Bair · 08/05/2015 01:06

Even if he can, will the party want him?

AyeAmarok · 08/05/2015 01:11

I don't think he even wanted the SLab job.

AgentProvocateur · 08/05/2015 01:14

And does anyone else want the job? Not after tonight, I don't think.

I'm in the constituency and am quite stunned at how low key the labour campaigning has been. Just saw something on TV stating that SNP had more people campaigning in each ward over the last few weeks than they had in the whole constituency prior to the referendum vote. Shock That reflects what I've seen on the ground but baffled as to why Labour wasn't more high profile. Perhaps because JM was campaigning nationally, but even still where were they??

FannyFifer · 08/05/2015 01:21

Labour have no activists, even their councillors locally haven't been out campaigning locally.

Bair · 08/05/2015 03:14

So, he's gone.

MintChocAddict · 08/05/2015 03:17

Jeez! I know it was possibly predicted but still shocked. The new MP only joined the SNP last August. Confused

Viviennemary · 08/05/2015 03:30

Somebody has just said he will stay on as Labour leader. I thought the SNP would get around 54=55 seats. But it's a landslide.

Eigg · 08/05/2015 03:34

I'm surprised at how much he lost by. I'd feel sorry for him but after all he did exactly the same to the Tory candidate in 1997.

MintChocAddict · 08/05/2015 03:40

It'a real shocker. Jim Murphy, Douglas Alexander, Cathy Jamieson, Margaret Curran etc etc etc Big names in Scottish politics. Much soul searching required by Scottish Labour party.

Eigg · 08/05/2015 03:42

Totally agree Mint it's so big, they'll really have to go back to the drawing board.

Tbf Jim and Douglas were very gracious in defeat.

MintChocAddict · 08/05/2015 03:46

They were Eigg
The next few years are going to be interesting.Confused

Eigg · 08/05/2015 03:48

Definitely. Will be extremely interesting to see how the MSP election goes.

MintChocAddict · 08/05/2015 03:58

Lib Dems have held onto Orkney and Shetland. SNP will be gutted.Wink

Bair · 08/05/2015 03:59

Cathy Jamieson didn't feel much of a shock at a local level. Some of her supporters were aggressive in town with a few members of the public and their only line was SNP BAD rather than policy or anything of substance.

FannyFifer · 08/05/2015 03:59

Best night ever!

OOAOML · 08/05/2015 06:40

Fanny I am a Labour activist (although not JM's) there are lots. we may have had an abysmal night but don't pretend we don't exist.

pinkje · 08/05/2015 08:07

Well Nicola Sturgeon is leader of SNP and she hasn't got a Westminster seat.

She didn't mange to keep the Tories out did she - she helped keep them in.

Feeling very sad this morning.

JackSkellington · 08/05/2015 08:17

I didn't stay up Fanny but I was shocked (in a good way) when I woke up. Still can't believe the result, it's amazing.

JackSkellington · 08/05/2015 08:36

pinkje I was thinking about the possible Tory majority, honestly I don't think it's good but on the other hand they will have a lot of opposition in Westminster.

Cloudhowe63 · 08/05/2015 09:34

pinkje Nicola Sturgeon did not keep the Tories in. People who voted Tory kept the Tories in - ably assisted by a Labour Party which lacked credibility.

Pumpkinpositive · 08/05/2015 16:43

I have no thoughts on the man himself either way but ...

How can he lead the party when he doesn't even have a mandate to be one of the rank and file?? Confused
