Regretting booking term time holiday

We have DS who is 6 and DD who isn't in school yet.

We were invited to a destination wedding by our closest friends, kids were page boy bridesmaid etc. we did two weeks one of those being half term. HT kindly authorised two days so 3 days unauthorised. That was fine.

However my mum then died and I seemed to have lost my mind a bit with carpe diem. DH can't take two weeks off in the summer so I booked two weeks in Greece in may. DS will miss four days.

I don't know what I was thinking. I had a look at curtailing it to a week but the cost is mad. I'm aware I've therefore prioritised that

We won't take a term time holiday again, once DD starts that will be it, and he hasn't missed a day of school apart from this.

I'm just suddenly very worried and feeling very guilty.

Please, be kind to yourself. It's ok to do just once. In the long term this won't matter at all.

OK any school days missed are a shame, but Autumn term is the worst I think. The really key maths stuff gets done then - place value and the four operations - by summer it'll be things like shape, time or simple fractions. You can talk about these in everyday life - cutting up food, talking about when things will happen, or by reading books. Hickory Dickory Dog is a cute book about times of day that I used to read with my kids.

Read to them daily, hear them read daily so they are reminded of their phonics, and maybe ask them to write a sentence each day about what they've done. Correct caps, full stops and tricky words.

You could always ask for details of topics and talk about those. Just cooking something with your DC will give them lots of valuable learning.

He's only 6, enjoy your holiday. In some countries they aren't even in full time schools at 6. If attendance is otherwise good I would try not to worry.

I have a 10 and 14yr old and I actually wish we'd taken more term time holidays!

Oh this is helpful. Thank you. DS is currently reading Ronald Dahl aloud so he's doing fine but it's good to know what they might be covering and we can keep up. I certainly don't expect extra work from his teacher but I'm dreading the HT's reaction.
