Unauthorised absence on inset day

I'm going to take DC8 out of school for 2 days for a holiday to see my grandmother abroad.

One of the two days is an inset day. Will that count as two days unauthorised absences or one as one day she wouldn't be in school anyway?

She's not absent if the school isn't open to pupils.

No, if the inset day fell in the middle ie day 1 of absence was a normal day, day 2 was the inset and day 3 was a normal day it would count as 3 consecutive days. If the inset day is at the start or the end of the absences then it won't count.

It does now if it falls in the middle of other consecutive days off, as explained above, even though schools aren't open. If it's at either end it doesn't.

That does sound a bit bonkers!
