Trying to get information we are travelling as a family to India and Asia for 8/9 weeks next march. I've emailed the education department but not really had a straight answer regarding fines. Spoken to the school head teacher t before the end of the summer holidays about what we was planning on doing and he was pretty happy about it but says we are obviously getting fined. Just wondering if it would be a fine or £80per parent per child or multiple fines as its a long break? Thank you

It is £80 per child per adult paid within the time frame.

It does not depend on the length of holiday

But I would expect the L.A. might consider deregistering you if the school is over subscribed? They will let you know where you stand.

I'd be far more worried about your child catching up on their return than a fine. Don't expect the teachers to do this - you need to make sure your kids are keeping up while away.
