Term time holiday cheaper than school holidays?

Looking to go on a UK summer holiday with my DH, DS and DD (7 and 9). Prices are so much cheaper in term time, school holidays are so expensive. I don't know if we can afford it.

Has anyone taken their kids out of school for a holiday during term time?

Most schools fine the parent for term time absence, it's currently £60 per parent per absence but from Sept is £80 so £80 per child per parent to take them out of school in term time. Attendance is a top priority in schools post pandemic for the obvious reasons.

Yes we take our kids out most years.

But we are in Scotland so no fines and its not seen in the same way.

We often meet English people on holiday who tell us they just factor the fines into the cost of of the holiday.

My kids are the same ages. We don't take them out for 'normal' holidays, like in the UK. We can't really afford to go abroad in the school holidays, as a normal annual holiday, so we don't do it. But we are planning on taking them out of school to visit family abroad, as a once in a lifetime trip. I want to do this while they're still in primary school. Fines are at the schools discretion. I've asked around other parents and no one has told me that they've been fined, yet.
