Mind boggling with summer holiday arrangements!

Is anybody else's mind boggling with summer holiday arrangements? I'm struggling to fit everything in!

I work 18.5 hours per week on a 2-week rota, so 20 hours one week, 15.5 the other. This includes a fortnightly all-day Saturday. DH works FT, 3 from home, 2 in London. We have DSes of 13, 11 & 8. The younger 2 still need care, DS2 has autism & ADHD.

Between work, Scout camp for the big 2, summer school for 1 & various short trips planned, my mind is boggling! Just hope I've managed to cover everything!

This is the first year I've worked school holidays, tell me it gets easier!

You will got so efficient at doing the juggling that you will believe that its easier.😉

I certainly hope so! It's far more stressful than actually working 🤣

i used to use a pad with the days of the week printed on it and have one for each week of the holidays, can then write on who is doing what and where, can then also write notes/ lists/ who is dropping off and picking up as there is more room in it than a calendar.
it gets it all out of your head then. Also when dh inevitably asks what times does that start/ finish etc you can direct to the pad. You could also use a highlighter for what each of you is doing, eg taking to activities.

like this one ☝️

I sort of miss all of that childcare now I have teenagers who ignore me apart from wanting a lift in the middle of a weekday when I am in online meetings all day !

Yup. It needed quite a sophisticated spreadsheet by the end, and a separate one for annual leave calcs.

It's simpler now they are older but we still need to juggle things in like Tetris blocks.

confusedofengland · 05/07/2022 13:49

That does look good! I write everything on the phone calendar, but somehow managed to miss off one day of annual leave I have confirmed & also one morning where DH used to be WFH but had changed, leaving no childcare 🙈 Thankfully he has swapped back temporarily.

A giant color-coded whiteboard of the summer, or a virtual equivalent, mapping out the entire family’s schedule, may be a sitcom stereotype, but it is totally your friend.

I think I might have an evening with Excel & my diary tonight! Once I've done 3 school runs, Tesco & Cubs, obviously 🙄🤣
