Feel guilty for needing a moment to myself

I’m 4 months postpartum & I absolutely love my little girl. For the record I do all of the care on my own. I get to about 4/5 o clock in the day and I feel I can’t cope, then she falls asleep and I watch her I start feeling guilty I felt that way in the first place.

Please don’t worry- the way you’re feeling is totally normally (in my experience at least!)

My two are now almost 4 and 18 months and I love them to bits, but it’s exhausting being a mum. I find by mid afternoon I’m checking the time a lot more frequently, looking forward to bedtime… and peace! My oldest is at nursery this morning and the little one has just gone down for a nap so I’m in the sweet spot of having an hour to myself.

You say you’re doing it all on your own, do you have any family/friends nearby who can give you a break at all? Just having somebody who can take your baby out for a walk for an hour and give you a breather would really help. If you haven’t already, maybe look for mum and baby groups in your area. I found when my first was tiny that it really helped to see other mums and get out of the house regularly.

Just remember that you’re an amazing mum, and your daughter is lucky to have you in her life.
