Swapping roles with DH

My husband is a chef and works 70 hours per week. 16 hour days and works nearly all weekends. I work in the nhs and work 3 days. One of my DH days off is always Monday where we’re off together if I don’t have private patients in the afternoon.

We only get 2-3 evenings a week together.

He’s shattered and doesn’t get to spend much time with DS who is 2. We are talking about me increasing my hours to FT and my husband working 2 days (when DS is at nursery) and being at home with DS 3 days per week.

I’m not sure if there will be any real difference in total income for our household but it would mean every evening together and weekends.

How have people found this who have done it? I’m not particularly ecstatic about being FT but I earn more money and have good working hours.

Any words of wisdom very much appreciated.

I think it’s a good idea. My DH was SAHP while studying at uni (mature student) and I worked FT to support us (I was in Forces).
Your proposed set up looks really good tbh. He’d still be working PT so would not lose out from being out of workplace. You’d have more time together as a family.

Thank you Angela. It’s just a massive change and I’m a bit nervous about putting the wheels in motion.
