How to deal with boredom?

Feel like I’m starting to get bored of being at home! Is it time to go back to work? DD1 is 20 months

Bored of the monotony of the day to day?

What job would you like to have and how will you facilitate that with childcare costs and transporting your child there and back? Would that be both you and your Dh/Dp or just you? Who would take time off work if your child is sick and are you planning any more children? How does that fit into your plans?

I have been a sahm for over a decade with both children now in secondary school and I am never bored, lonely sometimes and sick of the housework drudgery but not bored.

Even with a 20 month old you can listen to the radio, podcasts, music, audio books, if you get chance to watch stuff then Netflix, Amazon prime, YouYube not to mention all the catch up tv on iplayer/ITV/Channel 4.

It is worst in the winter months when you can be stuck inside but unless you have transport issues or money issues then there are so many places to visit. Can you not meet up with other parents who also have children of a similar age?

I feel like I need to do something a bit different apart from just parenting.

It would have to be a job that I could do both pick up and drop offs and obv if my child was ill I’d just tell work I couldn’t come in because of that like all other working parents do.

I think the worse thing about it is that she doesn’t ever play on her own, always needs me to be with her or doing something together!

Mine still won't play alone at 4!

I went back to work, full time, a year ago. Best thing I ever did.

It’s a tough one!

If you are thinking about anymore babies then maybe stay at home! However, the logistic and working with one child would not be too stressful. I did it with 4 and it was hard work.
I hear you though. I miss the work chats and using my brain. I also miss having a second salary but with four kids there is always one off sick and childcare would be ridiculous x

Do you get out and about? I used to do loads when I was a SAHM with one child, I did have my own car which helped. I used to do voluntary work, delivering meals on wheels, driving old folks around, they loved meeting my baby. . I went to a gym where there was a creche, I got involved in running the local playgroup, I edited a newsletter ... if you like that sort of thing there is loads to do. Used to walk four miles every day with the buggy (I was much fitter than I am now I am back at work ).

If I were you I’d start looking OP. If you’re bored it may be time to make a change.

I am out and about every day, go to three toddler groups a week... I think it might be a winter blues thing, after nap time, there’s not much to do and the hours to bedtime seem to be long!!

I think I might try the gym Creche in the new year. Have tried before and DD didn’t settle we’ll but she was a lot younger then.

Wish I was creative so I could make something and sell it or something!! Aha

I hear you. I'm only 4 months in and I'm bored out of my scull. I do get out and about. Tv is boring to me so When I'm out I listen to podcasts. But that still doesn't stop the boredom. I'm supposed to be working on creative things but I find between the laundry, nappy changes, feeding etc sitting down to start being creative feels like a chore
