I'm just fed up with all the sneary, snidey look-down-their-nose-at-you mothers in paid employment!!!!

I know I shouldn't care so much about what other people think but I'm human and sometimes it just really bothers me. And today it's making me cross, really cross!!

Are you sure you're not imagining it? I've always worked, apart from two 6-month maternity leaves 20 years ago, but I always look/looked at SAHMs with envy, not disdain.

One of my favourite sayings is one from Eleanor Roosevelt - "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent". And it's true.

As in almost all things in life, there is no black and white, there are only shades of grey. There are pros and cons of being a SAHM and pros and cons (different ones) of being a WOHM. I'd assume you made the best decision you could for you and your family, so just focus on the positives of that. And, if you're feeling particularly fed up with someone, think (to yourself) about what the negatives must be for them. But - as you say yourself - it's not worth worrying about. People who feel the need to sneer at others generally aren't very happy themselves; that kind of behaviour is most often borne out of insecurity.

Presumably it's one or two individuals who have pissed you off, and you don't mean parents who work in general?

I don't look down on SAHMs, although I do worry about them from a financial independence point of view but that's not my business.

I do get annoyed when SAHMs of school age kids tell me how busy they are. I am full time working widowed parent to a three and seven year old so whilst I don't care what school age kid SAHMs do all day I will not accept that they are truly busy (notwithstanding any caring responsibilities)

I would never want to stay home because I can’t cope day in day out with my children. People can judge that if they wish. I do not judge SAHMs and actually have a lot of respect for their ability to do what I couldn’t.

Once children are in school I am completely jealous of any parent who doesn’t work. I would probably judge them but it’s just because I’m jealous of the free time.

I agree! I've been sneered at, told to get a job, had the sarcastic remarks... Mainly from my own mother.

The best advice I can give, if you want advice, is to ignore it. You don't have to justify yourself/income/parenting/partner etc to anyone.

And in regards of the free -time, personally my only free time is 'now', as my kids are in bed. During the day I'm on the go non-stop. On ly difference is, I choose to be busy, and don't like, go back to bed and sleep all day like s ome people probably assume.

I only get annoyed by SAHPs who have school age children and tell me how busy they are. What are you doing? Cleaning? Cooking? Picking up your DC from school? Most working parents do the exact same

Meh. Works both ways. Ive had a good old rant at that Facebook tripe meme going round 'You only get 18 summers with your kids, make every minute count'.

Everybody is different. I work full time, I'm a single Mum.
I know that I wouldn't really cope with staying at home, because I've always worked and actually have no idea what I would do all day (probably just eat too many biscuits) because on the whole I manage working and being a Mum etc . However, I have those days like today where I'm feeling like shit (ear infection) but came to work because I had an important meeting. And I'm thinking "oh lord, I would love to be a SAHM". I don't look down on you though, why would I? I'm just a wee bit jealous and think I'd like to swap (for maybe a week haha!)

If people are being looking down their noses at you, that's their problem and not yours. Ignore them.

I'd say working mothers get more shit.

"Oh you work all day?? God, couldn't imagine missing so much of my kids childhood, I'd hate being away from them all day"
