Stopping breast feeding

Have made the decision after 8 months to stop breastfeeding my baby. He's my third and has not been the easiest to feed, we have struggled through latching problems sore nipples etc, and now he's just too interested in everything else to feed well. He drinks so much more from his nightly bottle.
I know I've done well feeding him this long so why do I feel so guilty wanting to stop.

8 months is fantastic ! You've been persistent and that's good, well done . It's better than most.

It's because we always feel guilty about something. If you bf him until he was 2, you'd find something else to be guilty about. I was there too when I gave up at 8 months. My dd is 3 and my only regret was that I spent so much time beating myself up about something which is so relatively minor in of all the decisions that you make in your child's life.

Because when when they take the placenta out they put the guilt in! I recently stopped bf my dd at 8 months. She has been mix fed since about 4 weeks old and has always had a bottle of f at bedtime and after weaning just wouldn't take any milk during the day at all. Now I feel guilty for mix feeding her because had I ebf she'd still be having bm at her nighttime feed. I had good reasons though and I'm sure the guilt will wear off (and no doubt be replaced with more about something else!).

It's always a sad thing to stop. More so if you know it's your last baby. But nothing to feel guilty about. Doesn't matter when you stop, it will make you sad. But only for a bit. Then you'll get sucked into the next phase of your baby's development. It's ok to feel whatever you feel... but it's got to be done anyways.

I felt like this too, my daughter weaned herself of at 10 months, I spent 3 weeks trying to get her to feed, but she kept refusing and wasn't taking any milk at all, only her solid food and water, which she really liked, but she just wasn't interested, so I feel she no longer needed to continue. I planned to let her wean herself whenever she was ready and she chose that herself.
