No phone signal and bank codes

We live rurally and have little/no mobile signal. It's not been a huge issue, friends and family know to phone on Landline or message via WhatsApp

However, increasingly I'm struggling to pay for things online as when I put in my credit card details, (Mastercard), I'm told that I will receive a code via text which I need to enter to authorise the transaction. But of course I don't get the text so can't proceed. I've just had to pay for my Ocado shop with PayPal as I tried three times but the texts never came through.

I emailed Mastercard earlier this year to raise the issue but they never responded. I can't be the only person living rurally who has this problem. Has anyone found a way round it?

I'm having the same issue! It seems to have got worse very recently with everything wanting to text you!

I can't transfer funds out of my PayPal to my new bank account because I can't get the security codes, and I've had to abandon shopping I wanted for camping as they wanted a text to check out.

It's really infuriating!

Just to do the dentist form you get a text code also hospital and now our GP!

Can you get a signal booster? O2 do them I think.

I can get in the car and drive a mile up the hill where I will get signal, but its ridiculous that I have to do that.

I usually stick everything on the credit card then clear it each month, but it's becoming increasingly hard to use the wretched thing online. And it is definitely getting worse. I've now got WiFi enabled calling on my phone but it doesn't extend to texts.

Enable WiFi calling on your phone if it has that option. The phone will receive SMS via your WiFi.

O2 I think are adding this (SMS via WiFi) capability this year, I don't have O2 so don't know if that is up and running yet.

We have no phone signal but I don’t have an issue when on wifi at home. Texts are received I try not to attempt anything online if not connected to wifi.

Who are you with? If your provider has wifi calling and you have enabled it you should also receive texts (I’m with EE).

Or do you not have wifi either?

EE have Wi-Fi calling and mine does seem to include texts. Gamechanger.

I also use my Amex more than my MasterCard because they don't send texts . . . I think Amex has an email option (although I must be a very boring shopper as it rarely triggers)

I would have this problem without WiFi calling. Not every mobile phone provider allows WiFi calling

Can you put WiFi texts on? It's a little symbol at the top of your phone if it's android from the pull down menu.

Almost all of the network providers can deliver WiFi calling but you do need a compatible device and have it enabled on your phone. Try googling your phone spec with WiFi calling to find out if your phone can support it.

We have Giffgaff and from a quick look Wi-Fi calls isn't a feature yet

I'm with 02, WIFI calling is enabled and I do use it but texts aren't, unless that's changed since I switched phones.

Looks like from that link above that O2 is the last of the big providers not to have got it sorted out yet.

Very soon though it shouldn't be a problem for you as you will be able to receive texts by WiFi by the end of this year.

I'd contact mobile operators about this issue and ask about plans to cover your area
