If you have professional jobs and move really far away, do you move back?

Id hate to move all our elderly parents with us and then realise that our jobs or any other jobs of similar standing need a London commute. There is always some risk, but I wonder how often it happens.

Have you or anyone you know ended up moving back?

Currently the companies we work for are very pro work from home or need one day in London at the most, which may be a push. They are permanent changes, but we are only 30s so I wonder what would happen in our 50s say.

I'd either ask for a wfh contract or move on outskirts

We moved away for professional jobs and eventually negotiated wfh agreements so we could get back to family (plus larger houses and in our case an infinitely superior school). That was over a decade ago when we moved back (we are old) DH did eventually have to find a new job and had a long commute for about a year. Then Covid hit and he was able to negotiate wfh indefinitely again.!
