Hi Everyone can you help at all.

I am writing my application for a national trust cottage we have fallen in love with and really would value some advice what should I put in it? we have local connections and in the local school and do some raising money for local footy team etc. Has anyone managed to rent a property and what do you think made you get chosen? It is a family cottage and rural and we would make perfect tenants in my eyes ??!!

Banish the 4 year old from your vicinity and make sure the application is neat (if hand written) and well spelt!!
You have already sold yourselves to Mumsnet with your local connections - now you need to put meat on the bones. Put details of how long you and your family have lived in the area, why the village school is important, exactly what you have done to raise money for the football team. Tell them your future plans - more children to go to the school maybe? Show that you will be good, long term tenants who will care for the property and will be able to pay the rent. Explain why living in this cottage is your dream. Don't worry about going a little OTT - better that way than to undersell yourself.
Good luck. Now take a deep breath and compose a draft copy then get someone else to read it…..

I am off to my mums to write the application now thanks lots for advice. the house we are going for is a 4 bed but we are 2 adults and 2 children will this go against me should I have 3 children to stand a chance? would a cat go against me and things do they like pets? so I should lay it on thick how desperate I am to live in the cottage.

The flash cars that turned up were crazy we are just a normal family I hope the fact I don't have a Range Rover doesn't go against me!! I am going to type my plea it does say just a brief description of our situation and local connections but is it ok to put loads on it, within reason?

Thanks again for your help
