Retiring abroad where there is a great health service?

My husband and I want to retire to the sun abroad in the future. Has anyone here retired somewhere with an excellent and affordable health care system? We know we will be needing it. Thank you!

Ypu don't have to leave the UK for that - come up here and enjoy the rain and 13 degrees.

Not something I plan to do myself but I have a former colleague who moved to Lanzarote in 2018 having retired from teaching and they love it. They rent out their home in the UK so they’re getting income from that and have purchased a lovely 3 bed apartment. Excellent health care options out there too.

Weve been.present when a non native speaker became seriously ill in Spain (he died). You need to be able to speak the language fluently, as does your partner or its a nightmare!!

Interesting to read that about Lanzarote. The climate in the Canaries would suit me as my asthma is affected by the cold damp weather in the UK. India and tropics is a too bold a move for us.

If you post the question on Gransnet you would likely get some good replies also. A good number of people seem to have done this.
Also balanced with widows/widowers whose partner later died abroad, and some balanced responses about then living abroad alone / navigating the legal systems / selling / moving back to UK.

Also be aware of specific medical limitations - e.g. unaware there were no cardiac facilities (or maternity at that time) in Fuerteventura for example, necessitating helicopter transfer to another island, by then too late for immediate corrective treatment.

Air Ambulance £25k plus back to UK (on insurance).

Like a PP, I could move also, but prefer to keep my safe UK base here but travel with the sun from October through till spring.
