When I put notice in - I want to leave asap - not give 4 months notice

Work in an admin type role for large organisation.
i already get my state pension but loved my job ( been there over 20 years)and despite being taxed heavily wanted to stay on.in the last few months everyone’s role changed ( a lot to do with AI computer generated systems) I just want to go now but have been told it’s 4 months notice- I don’t intend to work again - my sick record is very good but I really feel like just handing my notice in and going sick. How can I best phrase my notice letter to ask just to go with perhaps 2 weeks notice.

Well, what does your contract actually say your notice period is? Who told you it was four months?

Just hand your notice in and don’t come back. It’s not like you need a reference, go enjoy being retired!

Agreed - hand in your notice & go off sick if they won’t let you leave immediately.

Are you being told it is 4 months to leave or to request payment from your workplace pension?

If it is just to leave then if you don't need a reference you could just go but if you need that pension then might have to keep working to get your salary while you wait.

Check your contract, that will tell you your notice period. Admin would usually be a month unless a higher/management band role but depends on the org.
You could go to the doc to get signed off sick if work is stressful.

For an admin role 4 months is ridiculous, I would just hand in your notice with the last day you intend to work and then leave on that day.

I’ve seen plenty of people do this when they were moving jobs etc - it can leave a bit of a bad taste in the employers mouth, but not like you will be wanted to go back so it really doesn’t matter!

Are you sure it’s four months? Not four weeks?

I may be missing something but as others say, check your contract for the notice you are contractually obliged to give.

But they can’t force you to work. You can hand in your notice and tell them you will leave when you want to leave. They have to pay you up to that date plus accrued holiday pay etc. In other words, as long as you do not expect to be paid for the whole of your notice period, you can leave.

Please just be honest. I am ready to leave asap and would like to leave sooner than my four month notice period. Please can this be considered and a mutually helpful hamdover organised.

Do you have outstanding a/l.to set against the notice period?

I couldn't bear to leave with bad grace after 20 years.

4 months notice is ridiculous for your level role

I suspect it may be 4 months notice to get your occupational pension, that wouldn't be an unusual time frame.

It may well be that your notice period is less, but you would be waiting for your pension. So it might be you can resign with 4 weeks notice but it will be a few more months before you start receiving your pension payment.

Thank you - it is definitely 4 months. It used to be 3 months but was changed when we were all Tuped over last year.
Thats a nice letter - I will use something like that - I don’t want to leave with bad feelings but once my notice is in - I don’t want to be there listening to all the plans that I won’t be part of.

I did love my job but it’s now more about targets and goals than client well being.

I am happy to wait 4 months for pension as I get my state pension and have some savings x
