I have a deferred NHS pension which I can take at 60 in two years time. I requested a forcast three years ago have based retirement plans on this figure. I have now requested an update and it has come back at half the amount. To say I am devastated is an understatement. I will now have to work many more years longer. How can they get things so wrong ? They are looking into it but now I'm terrified it could drop even lower. has this happened to anyone else? I know I should have checked the first statement more thoroughly. I'm gutted. All those years of hard work and crap mental health because of doing such a difficult job for what ??

Agree with PPs, you need access to TPS. Once you are on the portal you can see clearly what the calculation is and can try to unpick whether they have your work record and contributions correct. My understanding is that if you left before age 55 you will not have index linking which will affect your payments. There will be two estimates -one if you take the larger lump sum and smaller pension or smaller lump sum and higher ongoing pension. Unless you have the letter is it possible that you got the numbers mixed? I have found the NHS pension service to be really efficient and responsive so worth querying it with them.

Thank you - I will check this out. It appears I was misinformed and had too much faith in the administrators!

There’s a Facebook page ‘NHS & Public Sector Pensions’ which is excellent, very informative & the lady who runs it is incredibly knowledgeable.

I retired just after I turned 55, so index linking applied.

I didn't mix any numbers up, but I have four estimates: 2 for March and 2 for April showing the differences re lump sums. The March figures are far higher than the April ones, as they show different age reductions. These came from my payroll department.

I actually don't think I've lost out (especially as I wanted to go at 55 anyway), but it does appear I was misinformed and I will be checking.

Thanks for everyone's concern and help.
