If you could retire anywhere, U.K. or abroad, where would it be?

As it says really. Where in the U.K., or abroad, would you retire if you could choose anywhere?

And why?

If money was no object? To a nice big house on the south side of Edinburgh.

BeTheCrown · 09/01/2025 22:02

Yep. What she said.
Edinburgh.
Is lush, many happy memories, want my ashes sprinkled there (even though it is one hilly bastard).

complicatedsitu · 09/01/2025 22:11

Yes, I think money no object!

Interesting two for Edinburgh!

In the UK I’d go to Brighton, lovely beach and everything within walking distance. Abroad, I’d love a beach house in a traditional village in Spain/Italy/Greece near stunning beaches and with hot temperatures for most of the year.

Givemethreerings · 09/01/2025 22:16

A big house right on Hampstead Heath.

All the green views outside my window and all the delights of London to keep me young at heart and stop me from becoming boring.

Allatseas · 09/01/2025 22:22

To France or Greece. Not this country.

Hummock · 09/01/2025 22:22

South West France

Greebosmum · 09/01/2025 22:26

North Norfolk. Put of my price range sadly.

Nourishinghandcream · 09/01/2025 22:28

Isle Of Purbeck (Dorset).

Not really certain why we aren't already living there, maybe it is because if we were there, we would want to be back in our current home (Cotswolds).🤔

KohlaParasaurus · 09/01/2025 22:28

A posh leafy part of London with good public transport links to the city centre.

TianasBayou · 09/01/2025 22:52

A mansion block apartment in St John's Wood.
Or on the south coast with a sea view.

MumChp · 09/01/2025 22:54

A place with a nice warm climate all year, thank you.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/01/2025 23:25

Nice bit of Majorca and a bolthole in Hampstead or Richmond -but plenty of cash to travel elsewhere too

unsync · 09/01/2025 23:33

France.

BBQPete · 09/01/2025 23:38

I'd stay where I am.

Good access to hospitals, and to public transport. Close to my family.
Most importantly lots of communities around me from things I've been involved in throughout my life.

HeddaGarbled · 09/01/2025 23:40

Agree with @Greebosmum : North Norfolk for the beaches and countryside and climate and community. House prices are lower if you come a bit further in from the coast.

Jaapssthia · 09/01/2025 23:40

Burnham Market.

RichPetunia · 10/01/2025 00:03

Somewhere warm!! I'm so fed up of being cold all the time!

Italy probably.

beachcitygirl · 10/01/2025 00:54

In the UK
, Richmond or Edinburgh
Abroad, Soller in north Mallorca

Magamom · 10/01/2025 00:56

I plan to spend winters on my ranch in Texas and summers in Europe, but have a home base somewhere in the countryside in southern England.

Mum2Fergus · 10/01/2025 09:20

I live in Edinburgh currently and quite honestly can't wait to get out of the place! Current plan is to head to Highlands when I retire in the next 2 years.

I do too and feel the same. Pot holed roads, useless govt, awful weather. Hordes of tourists. Covid has
made everything worse too. So many businesses closed or never got back to normal. Shops full of tourist tat. Overpriced restaurants selling poor quality food.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/01/2025 21:50

@beachcitygirl we are going to be after the same places- lol!!
