DH is coming home after his mum's funeral and I would like to surprise him

Hello Mners! DH stayed at his dad's place after his mother's funeral a few days ago and I came back to look after the kids. I would like to get him something from me and the kids to welcome him home and say we love him.
Anybody has any ideas?

Just all give him a big hug when he gets home and cook him a lovely dinner.Im sure thats all he will need and he will feel loved.

Get the kids to make him a card telling him how much they love him. You can just swallow him up in a huge hug, I'm sure that'd be enough and would say everything.

Cook his favorite dinner.

I agree with the others, any big 'gift' you get will just remind him of his mum's funeral whenever he sees it.
Cook a ncie dinner, bottle of vino and get the kids to do him some drawings or something.

I see what people are saying about a gift reminding him of losing his mom, but that's not always the case IME.

My grandmother bought me a little teddy during a really tragic time in my life, and now when I look at it I remember that at my lowest point I was still loved and cherished by someone.

With that in mind, I'd think of a little something to keep in his pocket when he has to 'get on with life' despite not feeling like it. A keyring with a photo of his mum on one side/you and the kids on the other? One of those motivational cards for his wallet?

Also, as others have said, handmade cards, chocolates and his favourite dinner would, I'm sure be lovely.

He might not be in a very good mood.

I'd be gentle and just ease him back into life in your house.

yes and allow him the time to just sit quietly if he wants to.Its a very sad time for him ,its good to see that he has a loving wife wanting to do the best she can to help him.
