Is relationship counselling of any real benefit?

Is counselling worth the effort & expense? DH & I are going through a rough patch. He kissed another woman months ago & is extremely remorseful. I can't let it go & it is constantly on my mind- sometimes feel I am going mad. I just want to move forward.

Yes it can be of great help, and I speak from first hand experience. It is worth the money if it helps you move beyond this and improve your relationship.

For some people. I think it depends on what you want to get out of it. They can often help you get to the root of what is causing your feelings. It's often difficult to do between the two of you, even if you do have good lines of communication. I found that the discussions that we had before a counsellor became involved just went round and round without any resolution.

Presumably, in your case you now have problems with trusting your DH? I would advise you to give it a try, especially if you are experiencing such strong emotions. Not doing anything to resolve relationship difficulties as soon as they arise is unlikely to make them go away, and they're only likely to get worse. On the other hand sometimes all that is needed is time.

Absolutely worth it. It can really help you gain clarity about your relationship, eg on the division of labour and responsibility that is so often the cause of a build up of resentment that ends up killing those loving feelings...

Yes, it's brilliant. Do give it a go. Good luck x
