Prefering my MIL to my Mother Very sad but true

Mine is fab and I feel a tad guilty that I can talk to her more freely than I can my own mother, and I enjoy her company more than I do my own mother

Infact I go to her about everything instead of my own mother

It makes me sad to admit this btw, am really not being flippant about it

I have a similar thing. My parents are lovely, and I love them to bits, but they are quite 'closed' people and we never really talked about emotions etc. when younger. Since having my DS, I find it much easier to be open with my MIL about what I'm thinking or feeling about things, whereas with my parents I just talk more about what has happened or will happen. e.g. when breastfeeding my MIL was much better at listening to my worries and supporting me as I had a fairly hard time, and she also made a point of praising me when I did eventually finish, whereas I never talked about it much with my mum because I found it hard to articulate the emotions to her and she never really said "oh well done" etc (she wasn't against bf at all, but just didn't really do the emotional support thing).

I still love my mum in a way that I couldn't love my MIL, and there are many things that I prefer about my mum, so I guess that makes me comfortable about preferring my MIL for some of the emotional support I need IYSWIM and I suppose that's maybe where I differ to you.
