How soon did you have sex after having a baby?

I have a 5 week old DD and am going on a date with my DH tonight. We aren't leaving the house, he is cooking me a meal and then the pressure is on...

Don't get me wrong I really want to start up our physical relationship again, we've always had a very active sex life. I am a little bit nervous about it. I am worried it will be painful and put both of us off again for a while. Or what if it's not as good as before? What if I am big and baggy down there now? (Sorry TMI)

How soon after did anyone start having sex again? Was it uncomfortable? Physically or emotionally (a baby has come out of there!)?

Bless you fuzzybunny for having the energy and wherewithall to even be bothered. Enjoy your meal and whatever 'desert' you can manage.

I met a lady at the baby clinic who was in my antenatal group many years ago.

She told me she had had to get the morning after pill a week after the baby was born

I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor.

He was an undertaker ..... not sure if that relevant....

I can honestly say I did not enjoy it for the first few times after ... but eventually it all comes back

I remember it being a little bit, um..flappy and spacious at first, but that gradually improves with time. I just 'fessed that for your benefit, so you know you won't stay that way

PMSL at "he was an undertaker"

im feeling really deprived now, when ds was born, OH and i were separated so it was 6 months before i had opportunity to have sex again and with this baby, OH is leaving 2weeks after baby due for six months (navy) so it'll be the same again. i still wont know how soon im ready. sniff.

Weegiemum · 14/05/2009 22:56

It was about 6 weeks after all 3 of ours - tbh it was a bit of an effort and with dd1 (1st child) it took a couple of attempts, but we got back into it ok. DD1 was a 2nd degree tear, ds a minor, dd2 a 3rd degree with theatre repair (smallest baby, fastest delivery!)

PLEASE think about contraception before you do - my Dad is only a year older then his brother and I know someone with only 11 month between her 2 kids ... so take care!

Lube, take it slow, know your not going to get PG, watch the leaky boobs, time it for a reasonable patch of baby sleep and don't expect it to feel the same as before,

And - STOP if you feel uncomfortable or cant. He can wait!

I was still having heavy lochia til 7 weeks so was about 9 weeks for us, TBH felt sick at the thought for the first 9 weeks anyway x

namechangerforareason · 15/05/2009 11:23

Cant agree more with weegies post above though, please be careful and only do what you feel comfortable with, great tip with the lube too! x

susie100 · 15/05/2009 11:36

I am at all the 5/6 weekers. Took me 4 months to even consider it. It was fine though although took a while to get back into it properly

mumblechum · 15/05/2009 11:43

2 weeks both times (CS both times).

Very carefully!

JetLi · 15/05/2009 11:45

No proper experience here - first baby due in July but as a lube user, I would avoid KY like the plague. SensiLube is good - made by Durex I think. There's good lube and bad lube and some are much more like your body's natural secretions than others!

MinnieMummy · 15/05/2009 15:12

So... dare I ask... how did the evening go Fuzzybunny?

fuzzybunny · 15/05/2009 20:19

Well...
It was a bit painful so have decided to give it a little while longer, it was lovely getting so close to DH again though, I think we both really needed that. The Cherry lube wasn't wasted!
DD was very good and didn't disturb us either.
