Please tell me how to be happy that dh is off on an all expenses paid trip to New York while I get to stay here etc etc

I have always wanted to go the the US and it's not likely to happen (finances not good), but dh has just been invited for a work thing. I have just gone back to work after my second maternity leave and am struggling a bit, am not sure if I still want to work there, not sure about being a full time SAHM etc.

I admit it, I am good old fashioned jealous but how do you lot manage when dh gets to do the interesting stuff while you get to, again, stay at home and do the domestics?!!

Well, because it's not for ever and as far as I know, New York will still be there in a few years time so go visit it then!

S'dull going with work, anyhow!

Does he snore? I would love it if DH went away anywhere he could have an all expense paid luxery cruise around the world and I'd be happy.

write a list of essentials for him to bring back for you to make up for it!

also arrange nice things to do with your friends when he's out there so you don't start to resent his absence!

I travel for work - for the most part it is really annoying as you get to go places, but never really see them as you are in the office or conference centre

I have done lots of work travelling too but I just really want to go! At least he isn't the smug type I suppose...! Sigh.

Seriously my dh went to Las Vegas with work last Easter and I was jealous (and 6 mths pg.) We always said we would go there to renew our wedding vows with an Elvis lookalike. It was never a serious plan, but I was sad he was going without me. I guess we might do it one day....

Alas Ruby, no one ever wants me to go on safari . Last time I was in the US (for a week) we had exactly 90 minutes to go shopping - it was like Challenge Anneka !

Tell me about it - dh has been in California all week and has managed to get a tan, so he tells me in rushed emails, although working hard . I dreaded it from the moment he told me months ago but it has been bearable as I have:

1. Eaten exactly what I want when I want without worrying about cooking (except for dcs).

1. Watched whatever I wanted on tv whilst being on the computer and reading.

1. Not food shopping except for the odd bits.

1. Have done 'fantasy' internet clothes shopping.

1. Spread myself in the bed. All night. And had the radio on.

1. Managed to have a long bath (whilst almost guilty allowing the dcs to mooch in front of the tv)

1. Worn my scummiest clothes

As for the jealousy problem, haven't worked that one out yet apart from trying to remember with all the trips and promotion usually comes a world of crap and obligation.

Omg, breaking news - a passenger jet has crashed into the Hudson river - feel quite sick as is dh's airline although he is not leaving until Saturday!

I could (and have) cope with a work trip to New York, but a bloody safari! No way would dh be doing things like that without me!

Dh had a week in NY earlier this year - he had about 2 hours to himself. I wasn't jealous as i have done plenty of these trips myself amd whilst sometimes you get to do fun things, most of it is dead dull.

I do feel slightly miffed that in my line of business some jobs call for a lot of travel. I don't apply/turn down offers for interviews as it's not practical and I really don't want to be away from home and dd a lot, only to find that dh is off to Paris/Milan/NY for several days. So it's alright for him - why do i feel guilty for even thinking of it? (Sorry Xenia!)

I think it was bird strike.

I cope in much the same way as moonshine , plus the dog sleeps where DH normally does and he snores less.

My DH travels lots, he is off to India at the end of the month, I've been asked to go several times as well but I can't/won't leave kids for over a week during school time so its off the cards atm. I'm trying to put out of my mind that the year before (to the exact same day) of the Mumbai bombings DH was there (not in the Taj hotel but in Mumbai) and also that the hotel he stays in feels they need to have armed guards at the gates.

On a more positive note, make sure your DH goes here for a steak, my DH went here on his travels in NY, he also hired a taxi for a couple of hours to see the main sights, pre-booked online to go up the Empire State Building which was something he always wanted to do.

I would never stop him going, not out of jealousy, I learnt a lesson when we had the chance to go on Concorde to NY, DD was 5 months old and very clingy so I didn't want to leave here, I remember saying to DH "Concorde will always be there, we'll go on it when the kids are older"

My DH had an all expenses paid trip to Hong Kong last year. I was in the same position, just back at work after my mat leave. It was hard, esp when he kept phoning saying how wonderful everything was. How many different ways are there to say "I'm really pleased for you, darling"?
I got friends to come round to the house most evening, the girlie nights didn't quite stop me from feeling jealous, but made it more bearable

My DH did this last year while i was at home alone with the 2 DC's. I wasn't too as he was busy with work the whole time and not sightseeing, but I did have a tantrum when he got home with presents for the DC's and nothing much for me.
