My mum just rocked ds2 to sleep wearing a sling and I am :-)

we don't usually always see eye to eye and it was lovely to see her take on something new and try using the sling with ds2 to get him to sleep
she was very about it when I used it with ds1, and thinks most of what I believe is crap, so this felt like quite a symbolic moment when she asked to try it

just thought it would be nice to have a nice post about my mum instead of a whingy one

he's well, thank you (although windy and whingy most evenings as was ds1 when little)

she did like it misdee, I think she thought she was being quite with it

hatrick for bfing and being easy to get him in and out of, I like the huggababy (ring sling)
for walking round town and for being more active, the hug a bub is good and dp likes it also (wrap sling). How is everything with you?

unfortunately she hacked me off before she went
"does he have water to drink?" (about sixth time since he was born, I keep saying no he only needs breastmilk)
(ds2 crying) "oh I will have to go in the other room, I can't bear it"

Poppy is 8 weeks and she loves the close baby carrier - falls asleep practically instantly.

(tried to get my mum to try it on the weekend but she declined!)
(And she mentioned more than once that "you don't know how much she's getting when you're bf" / "that's all that baby ever does is bf" - luckily we get on great and are very close!)

Is she a WI type? Will she be regaling her Jam'n'Jerusalem cronies with tales of how she is "cool" with this "newfangled parenting" malarkey?

My mum would be like that I think, but replace WI with her church buddies.

grrrr what is it with the water thing? Despite me bf ds1/ds2 and now dd3 (4 mths) my otherwise lovely mum still often asks "when can she have water?" or comments "maybe she's just thirsty not hungry"

OMG, if my mother or mil mention the water again, I will slap them.

ds of course had to have one of his worst crying fits when she was here

F&Z, both my mother and MIL, who both bf for at least 6 months themselves btw, were on about hte water thing.

And it had to be Cooled Boiled Water, said in rather hushed tones.

f&z i get the "something you're eating" thing too - if dd cries or is windy my dad says "it's all that garlic you eat" (despite me not changing my diet during pregnancy or whilst bf. (he thinks garlic is 'foreign' btw. bless. like pizza )

well, actually, the one time ds1 was inconsolable with wind was when I ate a shed load of garlic
but in general I think it is v unhelpful to suggest all problems are caused by "your milk"
it is so undermining and somehow enters your subconsciousness even if you think it is bollocks
I wish she would say some supportive things - well any supportive thing! I did really well to establish bf in a difficult situation IMO but no acknowledgement of that
am still mentally 7 and looking for affirmation from my mother
