I am a 76 year old woman. I was in a psychologically abusive relationship for 8 years. I told my (ex) partner that I was going to take my grand daughter to Australia to visit my son for five days (I live in NZ). He said if you go you can’t come back, I am changing the locks.

My daughter said to me, if a friend asked you for advice in this situation, what would you say? Easy. Leave now. My daughter drove four hours to come and get me, I threw everything into garden bags and left.

i am fortunate to have a very supportive family. I am now the resident granny in my daughter’s granny flat. Not how I saw my later years, but still.

i hope this helps those who are torn. I am still emotionally fragile but on the right track.

Just want to say I am so glad you have managed to get out and be safe. Well done, it's such a tricky thing to do
