What’s a normal sex life?

my wife and I are happily married, we’ve been together nearly 10 years, married for 6, but our sex life is almost non-existent; maybe once every 2-3 months for the past 8 months. We had sex once in the pregnancy (there were medical reasons why we couldn’t) and obviously then not for many months after (totally understandable!). Our little boy is now 18 months old, and i just wondered if this is just the new normal, and if this is other peoples’ experience too, or if this doesn’t sound like other peoples’ experience and needs thinking about.

I don’t have any friends in a similar life situation to ask, so would be keen to know what other people think? I don’t want to raise something if I’m just off the mark with what is normal in this phase of life.

Everybody’s sex lives are different, and depend on so many factors, but what is importsnt is open communication between a couple.
We have a 10y old DD so a long time since we were in the throes of a baby, lack of sleep. We have sex 2-3 times a week on average. Less so when it was early years because of complete sleep deprivation!

Just to add I wouldn’t say barely having sex at this stage is typical, even when you have an 18 month old- key is to talk and communicate with one another

Sleep is more valued at this point than sex. It will probably get back on track at some point. There is no set rule. There isn't a norm really. 18months is often the time when dcs generally have a sleep pattern change and can be exhausting. Just be glad that you have sex at all. Keep being affectionate in general without any expectations if sex just to keep the connection going.
Edited for incorrect word in post as wouldn't make sense.

It's been six years here, and talking to my friends at the same life stage it's very similar.

Kids are 3 and 5. We have sex about once a month I reckon. We'd both like it more, but even with both parties willing we are still knackered and don't bother most of the time.
