My adult child is 22 .
They have ASD and ADHD
Speech and language communication difficulties
And now after two seizures diagnosed with Epilepsy. She is on a long list of medication
They are a young adult emotionally socially and we lost the ehcp plan when college didn't work out
It is v hard among all the assessments and appointments to sort of move forward in life looking at doing volunteering to meet people .
She had a charity shop taster session due but she has a seizure the day before and spent the night at hospital and when she explained to the charity shop what had happened they didn't want to know and we worry that this will happen as a regular occurrence.
We have NHS recovery college too.
Any advice would be great 👍 😊

I wish I had advice. Mine is 15 and has been out of school since January following a nervous breakdown. We are maybe seeing a light at the end of the tunnel now. She has a variety of additional issues and takes a host of meds. I don’t know what the future holds for her. I feel for you, it is terrifying to see them want so much to have a normal life but just not to be able to achieve that.

Can you support her to approach the charity shop again? I'm surprised they 'didn't want to know' that she had been admitted to hospital. Sounds like they didn't believe her, but given her support needs perhaps you could speak to them? Obviously the goal is for her to be as independent as possible but it doesn't sound like she's there yet.

If this has happened, keep a medical evidence or report with you and just show it somewhere you doubt that your say won't matter. Besides medication, try to get her therapeutic access as well because that is something which helps in later age as that is a slow process and would require time to proceed.
