AIBU to be annoyed

Heating has gone on today. Radiator is knocking (I have no idea what I’m doing) he’s a so called builder full of excuses over the years: I’m sure it did this last winter and he never sorted it, I can’t remember a lot from last year as I was grieving my dad. I just told him it’s making a noise and he ran downstairs to watch the tv… I’m not expecting a miracle but atleast look at it. Everything like this gives me the ick… when will I know I want him gone

Is there more to your relationship than this? This isn’t a huge issue, just an annoyance in my book. It sounds like you already want him gone if you feel this way over a radiator.

secretrocker · 12/10/2026 19:37

Why is it his responsibility and not yours?

I’m assuming there’s more to the relationship issues than this, sounds like the radiator is the final straw?

He's a builder not a plumber? Why is it his responsibility and not yours?

For God's sake stop picking on the OP, she's obviously at the end of her rope. She thinks he will have a better idea of what's wrong with the radiator than she does. She'd like it fixed and knows he can do it. I'd just pay someone to come in and fix it and OP that's what you should do, tomorrow.

grinandslothit · 12/10/2026 23:41

I reckon there is a lot more than what you're telling us.
Can't you call someone out yourself someone different to look at it?

ToKittyornottoKitty · 12/10/2026 23:44

Whats his job? Does he actually fix heaters?

PaperMachePanda · 13/10/2026 00:04

I'm guessing there's more to the story other than the radiator.

Knocking in a radiator is usually trapped air, learn to bleed them, then do it yourself. Why does he have to do it?

PashaMinaMio · 13/10/2026 00:07

There’s probably air in the system. Get a “bleed key” from B&Q and bleed all your radiators.
Look on Google for advice how to do it. It’s really simple.

If that fails, get a plumber in to “balance” the system because it might be that the pipes are knocking & making a racket. It’d very common.

FateAmenableToChange · 13/10/2026 00:09

Bleed the top radiator till water runs out. That should help. And if he does nothing and you cant stand him, leave. Start making plans and preparing now so when you do decide you can.

AnoKatoPisoPros · 13/10/2026 13:32

Call a plumber?

Oh come on - he's a builder ffs, he should make himself useful, not hide away with the TV.

LetMeGoogleThat · 13/10/2026 13:44

Bleed the radiators, and then be smug at your independence. I'm sure this is about far more than just the heating, so prove you don't need him.

Thank you! I did just this. I became quite attracted to him when he fixed the problem 🤣
