Is he willing to cover bills?

Are you eligible for Maternity Allowance?

You must have been employed and/or registered self-employed for at least 26 weeks in your 66 week test period prior to your due date

The 26 weeks do not have to be in a row and it does not matter how much you earn. You do not have to be physically at work to be employed or self-employed; you might have been on statutory maternity leave for an earlier pregnancy, for example.

If you were employed in the 15th week before your baby is due, you will need form SMP1 from your employer which sets out why you do not qualify for SMP.

Statutory Maternity Pay: employee not entitled – form for employers

A form for employers to fill in and give to employees who aren't entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay.

Is he going to contribute and help fund your maternity leave?

I'm sorry. Some people are just anti joint accounts. Ask him what he sees as fair, and get him to set something up. If he is your partner, what does he expect you to do?

rumerx · 09/10/2026 20:50

@BrightStork Did you never discuss this with him before having your baby?

Even if not wanting a joint account, I hope he would share money with you equally. The majority of men will, we just hear more of the bad ones
