Dating two brothers

Want to make it clear that I am long time happily married.

Many moons ago, was seeing a guy (not serious and first boyfriend type thing). We went out for about 8 months and it fizzled out. I would often see him out with his brother and I’d sometimes bump into him when I was out with friends and not the guy I was seeing. Would happily chat if I saw him etc.

When we did finish I bumped into him and he criticised his brother for not treating me very well and asked me out. I declined as I was completely taken off guard and it felt like it could get a bit awkward and I dunno, felt a bit “eastenders” 🤣. Never saw him again. He was also a bit older, say 9 years and I was still late teens.

I was just wondering if anyone had actually gone for it and dated more than one brother, and whether it worked out or was just awkward etc.

I'm sure you will get a good few success stories, but it has the potential to be very awkward indeed!

Hmmm, years after breaking up with my « starter boyfriend » I realised I should have been with his older brother. But by then I was married. Otherwise I would certainly have gone for it. He was (and still is) very kind!

Anyone?

Not personally but years ago I knew a woman at uni who was seeing a guy for a year or so and when they broke up she started seeing his brother.
I think the original brother didn't take it well but the second relationship didn't last either.

My mum knew someone who married someone and had 2 children with him. That marriage broke up. She then went on to marry his brother and have 2 children with him!
Confusing as the children were half siblings but also cousins.

I think there was a thread not long ago where the poster was dating her sister's ex-husband and was scared about telling the family. I may have remembered details wrong but that's the gist of it.

When I was at uni I worked in a proper east London cockney pub. There was a barmaid who used to be married to one brother (2 children), they broke up and she got together with his brother (who was always in the pub, no idea what he did!). I have a vague feeling they then also broke up and then she got back with the first brother. Surprisingly that didn’t feel like a major storyline compared to to what else went on there!!

I've been the brother. I always used to get his cast offs.

It wasn't ever a problem. Most people, including me, soon forgot they were my brother's exes.

Anyone?

You already had two answers and ignored both posters.

herdiegirl · 08/10/2026 17:17

@NoCommentingFromNowOndidnt think I was ignoring. They hadn’t personally dated two brothers and was interested to hear others lived experience.

@DannyDeevergood to hear it wasn’t ever a problem for you. Did your brother feel the same about it?

No idea, I never asked him, it was never mentioned. Seems weird that it wasn't, but it wasn't. 🤷‍♂️

I knew a very creepy man (in another country, not the U.K.) who was married to an Indian lady. She sadly died quite young and he married her sister. People generally felt quite uncomfortable about this although of course it wasn’t anyone else’s business.

Given the chemistry of compatibility, it makes total sense that there would be attraction between a person and two siblings, and vice versa since the siblings share the same genes. But it’s a bit eeeuw.

herdiegirl · 08/10/2026 20:59

@DannyDeever fair enough. Doesn’t sound like it must have a been a big issue for him if it was never mentioned.

Was thinking of the shoe was on the other foot and one of my exes dated my sister, I would find it extremely awkward. Probably why I instinctively said no.

Not me but Mozart couldn’t have one sister so married the other.
