DP has odd compulsive behaviour

Hi there, DP and I live together however as the years have gone by and I am finding his behaviours increasingly difficult to deal with. He has some OCD behaviour relating to saving insects. This means if I go outside and there is ants visible on the ground I will be guided in different directions and told where to walk. If there is a fly or a spider on windscreen or the car, we have to pull over to move it off to a bush, sometimes he’ll walk all the way down the street to find an ‘ appropriate space’. This happens several times a day. If he finds a dead insect ie a wood louse he will have to convince himself it’s truly dead before he can bin it, so it lays sat on top of a tissue paper in various places around the house, often for days, and gets distressed if I move it or throw it away. It’s impossible to go for a country walk with him as she seems to be constantly scanning the floor looking for things and invariable will keep stopping to examine areas and tinker on with something he thinks needs help. This ultimately means I am always stuck waiting for him to finish what he is doing. The issues is not he is helping animals it’s the extreme nature of it. He has undergone OCD therapy twice and it hasn’t worked, I think fundamentally because he believes in looking after all creature great and small so some of what he does is his core belief. Im constantly finding myself stifling my frustrations over me continually having to adjust to this, and when I do blow, I find myself guilty or that I am the bad person for trying to stop behaviours which he ultimately feels is doing good.
anyone else have any similar experiences or other means of coping with this?

I’m not sure I could put up with that either: I wonder what’s behind it. Does he have any autistic traits? Could the insects be an obsession?

What happens if you just carry on walking and tread on an ant?

Sounds like he may be autistic.

He sounds like a caring person to be honest. I do this kind of thing too. You could be with someone much worse

Was just about to say could be ASD? My son has ASD and these repetitive behaviours are common. He believes it’s the right thing to do so it must be done.

OCD and autism often overlap. My son was diagnosed with Asperger’s at 6 and since 14 is showing more OCD traits. Underlying anxiety can aggravate the issue, has he tried medication?
