Feeling totally deflated

Days before Christmas 24 I found out that my husband had been cheating on me. I said nothing and tried to hold things together so as not to ruin Christmas for the kids, but I was going through his phone and emails gathering evidence and information then eventually in February he found out that I knew. For various reasons that I don’t really want to go into, splitting up is not an option. He ended things with her and promised me that he would never speak to her again. I’m trying hard to believe him but it’s difficult to trust when you’ve been betrayed so badly.

Fast forward to this weekend, he’s away on a boys trip (I am reasonably confident that this is true not a cover), and I’m left with the kids. Then this afternoon I get the post out of the letterbox and there’s a leaflet for a women’s clothing brand addressed to him. It’s a brand that he had bought her a gift voucher for at Christmas 2022. I’ve never seen him get these before although it is possible that he has and he’s been binning them.

So now I’m sitting here wondering if this is from that gift voucher 4 years ago, or if he’s gotten back in touch with her more recently and sent her something else or another voucher. Either way, it’s fucking shit that this huge reminder of his infidelity just landed in my doorstep completely out of the blue. And of course it had to be the weekend he’s away so I can’t even go through his emails to see if I can find anything about it or not to maybe set my mind at ease.

Its just shit and I want to sit here and cry, but I need to hold things together for my boys.

I don’t really know what I’m hoping to achieve by posting this, just needed to get it out I guess.

He’s done it before, so it’s reasonable to suspect he’ll do it again. You said you can’t split so I’m not sure what you want from him?

AquaSub · 02/10/2026 18:06

Really sorry to hear you’re struggling. I think this is another point where you have to decide do you put up with these knocks, these potentially suspicious or totally innocent incidents, or do you leave him and find your peace?
Would you leave if you did have definite proof? If not, don’t go looking for it?

Even if you do decide to stay now, doesn’t mean you can’t leave in the future.

That’s the trouble with losing trust isn’t it.

AquaSub · 02/10/2026 18:07

We can’t tell you if this is innocent or not. But it’s obviously sent your spiraling.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 02/10/2026 18:16

It’s not easier for you or the kids to stay with such a man. A catalogue from a woman’s brand has indeed sent you spiralling . It appears you have had no real support post discovery nor did you have any counselling?.

You still don’t need evidence to present (it’s no fault divorce these days) because he had cheated on you.

He’s had no real consequences from you for his actions because you decided to stay with him for your own self based reasons . That’s your prerogative but I would think your reasons for staying would not stand up to scrutiny.

If one of your sons discovered his wife was having an affair would you encourage him to stay in the marriage?.

I would state do not stay in such a marriage for the supposed sake of the children. It does them no favours at all and they see all your reactions both spoken and unspoken to him.

What do you want to teach your children about relationships and what are they learning here?. Is this really the model of a relationship you want to show them?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 02/10/2026 18:17

And if there is no trust, there is no relationship.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 02/10/2026 18:29

and in the event it’s a stable life you want for the boys and yourself show them properly that you do not stay with a cheat. You really and truly do not need to look at his emails now.

And you bloody well matter too. Find your anger here and dry your eyes. He’s no longer worthy of you or the children.

Read Chumpladys website and seek legal advice on all aspects of separating from him. You do not have to act on it immediately of course but knowledge is power. And you need to take some power back rather than be miserable or bitter in being supposedly stuck with him because you can still separate from him if you want to.

blythet · 02/10/2026 18:51

Not surprised you don’t trust him. Can’t be a nice way to live constantly checking up on him and going through emails etc all the time.

why is it you can’t leave?

EmpressStorm · 02/10/2026 18:57

Why can’t you split ? A life with a man cheating on uou and living like this is horrific.
