Two surprise birthday plans on the same day with different friends

Hi all, I'm just looking for an outsider opinion on a situation I've found myself in. I've got two completely separate friend groups and for my upcoming big birthday, both groups have arranged a surprise outing - on the same day! One group lives locally to me, the other approx 300 miles . The far away group would be coming to stay with me on the Friday night dinner drinks etc, then planned activity at 3pm on sat. Local group is an evening event at 8pm till late.

Local friends aren't phased by this at all and and very much happy for me to do daytime activity then join them later but the travelling friends are really not happy! I'm feeling stuck, I don't want to upset anyone but also I feel like it's not my fault?

Wwyd?

Thanks!

*edited to add - planned activities to take place in nearby city and both groups have booked a hotel for the night and have included me in the numbers 😱

I'd celebrate that i had such lovely friends around me.

Then I'd get the groups to message each other to resolve the problem they've caused.

Hopefully you'll find a way to all celebrate together in the evening.

Happy big birthday!

Yep - put them in touch with each other and get them to resolve it. It’s not your job to please other people. It’s your job to be pleased.

Can't they all do both?

Why can’t long distance friends join in with local friends in the evening?

This is not your fault. Distance friends have no business being mad.

Lovely to have so many friends wanting to celebrate you!
