He is v chatty, v popular and that’s fine . He’s involved locally in volunteering group, past times, hobbies etc etc. He’s become Facebook friends with a new female friend to add to his other 1000+ ‘friends’, majority male .
He’s not flirtatious but chats to everyone the same way .. gregarious, humorous and interested in people.
from one of these charities .
Am I being ridiculous to be concerned there’s more to this?

😱I would work on your trust issues & self-esteem. If f course he can be FB wth a female!

Imonmyownhere · 30/09/2026 18:52

So he's got 1000+ friends and you're concentrating on this one, why? He'll be adding people all the time at that number! I'll bet he doesn't know half of them personally.

EmpressStorm · 30/09/2026 18:57

Yeah you need to work on your jealousy issues.

Releasemeplease · 30/09/2026 19:06

Is there any particular reason you are concerned about this woman OP?

Arlanymor · 30/09/2026 19:15

Why are you concerned? It can’t be because he’s added someone to Facebook.

MrsLFii · 30/09/2026 19:45

Presumably there is more to this than ‘he is friends with someone on Facebook’?! Otherwise, yes, I agree with the others, he isn’t your concern, your trust issues and controlling tendencies may well be

BugJuice · 30/09/2026 19:46

So he’s added a friend on Facebook? Anything else?

EmpressStorm · 30/09/2026 19:46

Are you checking who he is friends with and she’s attractive ? As that’s a bit creepy

Tillow4ever · 30/09/2026 20:03

You’re the red flag here. He should leave you and your controlling, jealous behaviour.

You should work on you before dating.

Most people have FB friends of both genders because of all kinds of instances--co-workers, hobbies, friends from childhood/teen years, etc. Why, in this case, do you think it's abnormal? Or do you feel uneasy just because you saw her photo and you think she's hot and he won't be able to help himself?

If this is a "you" problem, I actually suggest unfriending him on FB so you don't torture yourself and come up with false assumptions.

What I do suggest, since you two are a new couple, is to discuss relationship boundaries to see if you're on the same page. I always think it's dumb to become exclusive with someone without knowing if you match on things like opposite sex friendships, discussing what's comfortable with you and what would be off-limits and a dealbreaker.

It'll never work if one person is okay with giving out their phone number to a potential new friend of the opposite sex, and the other person in the relationship is against that practice. There's often no right or wrong in these preferences, but the differences mean that the couple is wrong for each other and should seek out a different partner who matches them in all major ways.

whippersnapper55 · 30/09/2026 22:35

Why are you monitoring his Facebook friends?

Mammyloveswine · 01/10/2026 03:46

God I’ve only been with my boyfriend a relatively short time and started a new job within weeks of meeting him, totally clicked (platonically!) with my colleague and he’s fast becoming one of my favourite people! Boyfriend also has close female colleagues who he chats to all the time!

42goingon14 · 01/10/2026 06:26

You’ve started a MN thread because your boyfriend has a new female friend amongst his 1000 existing friends on FB?

Tablesandchairs23 · 01/10/2026 13:25

Work on your jealousy issues.

ItsAlwaysTwins · 01/10/2026 13:27

In answer to your question, yes you are being ridiculous.

ginasevern · 01/10/2026 14:16

More context needed really OP. But generally I'm of the opinion that men can't be trusted any further than you can throw them, so I'm probably not the best person to judge.
