Ghosted by a good friend

I have been chatting online to a woman for a couple of years who contacted me as she saw one of my posts on here about a health condition we both have. Although we'd never met I considered her a good friend and we'd send each other long messages.

Recently she wanted to message on WhatsApp, id never used this but agreed to, so downloaded the app and sent her an invite. She said she didn't want to accept it as it wasn't private (?) and sent me an invite instead, which I accepted. I messaged her on it and had no reply, I then sent her a message on Facebook but again no reply. I don't understand why she's ghosting me, I've been nothing but kind and respectful in my messages even though she's been a bit off at times in hers. Another FB friend said to block her, which I probably will if I don't hear back from her. She also uses a fake name on FB so I'm thinking she must have something to hide, she wouldn't send me a pic of her despite me sending her one of me, so I've no idea what she looks like , never even mentioned her husbands name once although I told her my partners name.

Has anyone else had this happen in a "friendship"? I really don't know why she's gone quiet but I'm pissed off as I thought I had a good friend there.

It might not even be a woman. I think there's a false sense on intimacy with this kind of online relationship. You don't actually know who she (or he) is at all.

Oh I never even thought of that, but due to our past interactions it's highly unlikely. I might send her one more message on FB and if no response then I'll block, I'm too unwell for petty drama.

No picture, fake name, bit off sometimes? You need to be careful OP, she knows a lot about you and your family, you don't even know what she/he looks like.

Hopefully you're a frequent namechanger on here.

Dont take it to heart op

I've had a similar situation with a Mumsnet friendship. We didn't have much in common irl though so I haven't taken it to heart, as much as I liked her!

Maybe she felt the same or something - or maybe she was a scammer - sometimes rejection is redirection xx

You don’t know each other
You haven’t been ghosted by a friend
Someone you don’t know anything about and who could’ve been lying to you stopped talking to you

It’s probably just as well

It's odd as we had been getting on so well, she said she'd had a lot of rejection in life, as I have, which is why she's so private. Unfortunately I'm a sensitive person so things like this hurt more, but ultimately it's her loss.
