How did sleeping with someone new feel after a long-term relationship?

For those who’ve come out of a long-term relationship
what was it like sleeping with someone new for the first time?
I recently did it after a pretty horrible breakup. It had been about five weeks of no contact with my ex, and I honestly wasn’t sure how I’d feel being intimate with somebody completely new.
I think I’d built the “first person after my ex” thing up into this massive milestone in my head. I wondered whether I’d compare them, whether I’d suddenly feel emotional afterwards, whether it would make me miss my ex, or whether I’d just feel weird.
But it was almost the opposite.
I felt attractive again. I felt wanted. I’d spent so long having my confidence knocked that I think I’d forgotten what it felt like to have someone new look at me and genuinely fancy me. And there was something really freeing about realising that attraction, intimacy and that side of myself didn’t begin and end with one man.
It also wasn’t some perfect, serious, movie-like experience. There were awkward moments, we laughed, I managed to headbutt him at one point 😂 and somehow that actually made it better. I came away thinking, “Well… I did it. I slept with somebody who wasn’t my ex, I enjoyed myself, I laughed, and the world didn’t end.”
I don’t suddenly want another relationship and I’m still very much enjoying being single. But I think I needed that little reminder that I’m still me, I’m still attractive, and there’s a whole life on the other side of a breakup.
So I’m curious
do you remember the first person you slept with after a serious relationship? Did it make you feel differently about yourself or your ex? Did you feel liberated, emotional, guilty, confident… or was it just sex and you carried on with your day? 😂

Yep it was fucking fantastic, esp after many years in a sexless marriage with an H with ED.

I still think about the first time I had sex with DP even now, two years on, and the sex is still fantastic.

It’s brilliant you enjoyed yourself, op

I think I’d be disgusted if im honest, it’s the reason why I haven’t had sex in 10 years, cant face the thought of someone new touching me.

always pretty rubbish for me, takes a while to get used to someone new and teach them what I like

I found it really stressful but turned out so did he so we could laugh about it together and keep trying. Now it’s great

Congratulations OP (if that is the right word 😁)

Well I'd only ever slept with my ex husband (we'd been together since we were teenagers) so I was super nervous to sleep with someone new.
Met someone online dating and I really psyched myself out about it thinking we'd have sex and he'd run a mile after seeing me naked. I mean we'd both come out of long relationships and I was thinking "the last time I took my clothes off in front of someone new I was 18 and perky - and the last time he slept with someone new she was in her early twenties!".
But it actually felt really, really nice. I was completely over my ex by then and really into this new man. It was different, but it did feel good. The very first time I think I was too nervous to actually enjoy it properly - but since then it's just got better and better 😁

Five weeks? After a long term relationship?

No, that would be way too soon for me. I don't think it'd be possible.

Five weeks too soon for me but each to his own! It’s good you were able to forget your ex & live in the moment.

The quickest way to get over a man is to get under one. Sounds good to me.

I’d only been with XH. Felt like a huge deal at the time. I did wait several months before I started dating and had a few duds before I met DP. I felt comfortable in his company and I was happy to go for it. I do remember thinking it might be a one night stand. Told him that later and he said ‘No way, I was always coming back!’
I think it helped me that he’d also come out of a long term relationship so we were both nervous and excited! I did joke the first one was a freebie to get our stride back 😆 Turns out it was amazing and even a few years down the line it still is 🥰

Thankyou for all your replies.. so interesting to hear your experiences.
I found out my partner had cheated on me with multiple women after years together, so 5 weeks no doesn't seem long but at least I was single!

There were quite a few in a relatively short time, which for me was my personal choice. It felt absolutely liberating and made life stress free, l was purring.
