Hi
MrKat and myself are 60, He's having a few issues.
I've suggested viagra, he's not keen on drugs (but he is keen on sex) he is a bit paranoid about side effects with all drugs. He doesn't even take paracetamol.

There must be a few of you out there whose have used it with your partners.
Any side effects ? - other than the desired one ?

Sorry for bringing this up, it's just where else can I ask a lot of people ?
Kat

I'm no expert, but we've played with them before. There are a few different kinds. The ones we used (I may be butchering spelling here) were

Viagra/sildenafil - Little bit awkward, needs to be an hour before food and/or two hours after. Lasts for about 4 hours.

Cialis/tadalafil - Less awkward, can be taken with food, lasts a few days I think?

The side effects we saw were mild headaches / congestion / heartburn. Less so with smaller doses, and the cialis had fewer side effects than the viagra.

I think it's a bit of a mixed bag though. My suggestion would be to get a low dose mix of the two, try them separately, and see how you go.

At his age I would strongly suggest a GP check up for the ED. It could be BP, heart issues, an enlarged prostate, pre-diabetes, before recommending any sort of boner pill.
How's his weight, BMI and fitness levels?
If he doesn't like drugs he can go down the homeopathic route but there's no scientific evidence that they work

First he needs to go to the doctor and have a check up and blood tests. Erectile dysfunction can be an indicator of various health conditions, like diabetes, cardiac issues or low testosterone.

My DH has low testosterone. His level was almost as low as a woman’s level. No wonder he was impotent. He’s on testosterone replacement therapy for it which has mostly fixed his ED. He’s had both viagra and cialis prescribed. One doctor described the difference between them as viagra is a one night stand and cialis is a dirty weekend. Grin

He gets side effects from viagra. He hasn’t used cialis. Can’t quite remember but I think raised heart rate for a few hours. Maybe a headache or just feeling crappy. If he takes only a tiny bit of a tablet it enhances things without much of the side effects. He uses a tablet cutter to do this. He’s super sensitive to various medications so I’m not surprised. Anyway, the difference I notice with the medication is that he’s extra hard, I swear he’s slightly larger probably because of better blood flow or whatever, his erection lasts for longer and he’s more confident because he’s not worried that he’s going to go soft. It definitely feels better for me! The only downside is having to plan ahead to take it so it’s active at the right time.

KalamityKat · 28/09/2026 13:16

when you say 'lasts about for 4 hours', you mean he'll be hard for about 4 hours ? !

edit this was supposed to be in response to silencelaysteadily

No, if the erection lasts that long it’s a medical emergency! An erection will only occur due to the usual factors, like being aroused. It will give a window of time when the medication is active. I haven’t checked but if it’s four hours then anytime in that 4 hours he should be able to get a satisfactory erection that’s fit for purpose IYKWIM. He’ll likely be able to have multiple erections during that window of active medication.

DP says they give him a headache so he would rather not take them if he can help it

PickFlowersNotFights · 28/09/2026 13:39

DP did take it (and it lasted a few hours) but finally went to the GP and had a 60’s health check. He mentioned the ED and they tested his testosterone level which was low. Now on testosterone tablets and it has worked a treat. Would def recommend he visits the GP for an overall heath check - they were really supportive when my DP went. —feels like taken more seriously than a woman but hey ho—

Thank you for all of your replies.
Probably best for everyone if he consults his GP first.

It's the GP for him.
His weight is OK BMI 25ish, top end of normal, fitness wise he walks about 10-12km a day.
I don't know about homeopathy, maybe I need to massage it for him

If he drinks a lot of liquid and pee's a lot it could be an enlarged prostate. Always best to have a check and a blood test for PSA. (insist on this)

Spaniels4Eva · 28/09/2026 14:48

DH has got heart problems and even the Consultant cardiologist was reluctant for him to try ED medication as it can impact blood pressure etc. He was given a prescription for a low dose which we tried at home and it made him feel so unwell that we were nearly on the cusp of a trip to A & E. He was frantic to avoid it to say the least, and I'm a trained carer so kept a careful eye on his heart rate and BP.

It's really risky without a GP chat first.

cinquanta · 28/09/2026 14:57

My DH is mid 60s and has used viagra and cialis (GP prescribed). No noticeable side effects from either.

GP should be his first port of call.

Chatterlyssecret · 28/09/2026 18:28

GP prescribed, half a sildenafil gives bloodshot eyes and good erection after 30 mins & again in the morning a good erection can be had.

Imonmyownhere · 28/09/2026 18:58

It'll only work if he's aroused.
