Hey guys ,i was married half my life and lost eveything and become a single mum and solo carer to my children.i had to make a choice and take a social house an hour away from where my previous family home was and my new partner. He has a child of his own ,older.,he has him now and again ,he lives 2 mins away from his parents house who he sees and they cook him dinner most evenings after work.we discussed the future 2 years on now..and he would like to move in one day when the kids are older and less dependent, ive for a 4 & 9 ur old. He mentioned his life will change the most,we will all be there when he gets home ,we wont have own our time to ourselves anymore ,so to me that soundsas hes worried about his life changing so much as a solo man with his own house and his child he has now and again,he is worried id take his house or we dont know what the future brings ...basically hes lost a house to a previous partner and had to start again, and this is where i think the worry comes from.I thought I wanted a shared life with this guy, get married and build a life but his concerns hace really put me off moving in with any man again.my good friend says hes wrong for not wanting to commit now and he wants best of both worlds. My mother and farther both joke and call him my love stick.. and can tell they have concerns we arnt building a life together. He is amazing dont get me wrong he does eveything he can to help me ,jobs in and around the house, walks my doggie...hes always buying me gifts ..taking me away and shows he loves me all the time and looks after me in any way he can and I genrally belive he does love me..but with how eveyone is acting it makes me think.. am I actually being kept on the side lines untill someone better in his eyes comes along...not a single mum on benefits .a women with a job, with savings ,older children all because of my ex husband who left me and my boys with nothing and this is a horrible feeling i keep having.I thought for a very long time I wanted marriage and build a life with someone but now im not ever sure ,if I was on my own again,id think id want to keep things separate keep my own house etc. Do relationships work long term like this ? Should Id be worried hes possibly stringing me along untill someone more suitable comes along his way. ...I really don't know what to think. Do I cut my losses .even though I love him but hes not fully commitig to me and can tell deep down he never really wants too. Help.!!

Sounds like he’s been very clear here. The question is how much does that align with that you want? At the moment, it doesn’t sound like a good match.

Being honest, it doesn’t sound like he’s that committed to his own child, so you’re possibly being quite naive to expect him to make commitments to you and your children.

Is this your first relationship since your marriage ended?
Maybe just focusing on you and your children for a while would be good? They’re very young and it sounds like they’ve been through a lot- parents separating, moving house and areas etc.

He only has his child now and again, gets his meals cooked by his mum so he is living pretty care free and he is not willing to change that. I bet his mum has a key to his house and goes round to tidy up and sorts out his washing too.
You and your children have been shafted by your ex but another guy won’t fix your problems. Your children need you to put them first and moving in another man would not make you a family as he would resent them. I’d always keep things separate as it’s best for your children and a lot easier than moving in with someone as if relationship ends you won’t become homeless again.

Don’t let him move in with you

I would suggest not moving in together. Look after yourself and your kids until they are older.

Please please do not have this man move in with you . Just focus on yourself and your kids

keep your relationship separate to your kids. He shouldn’t move in
