After seeing what marriage did to my mother, I did not want to marry anybody. So far, I've stuck to that!

To be fair, I am dead inside (I think puberty forgot about the 'relationships' sector and over-emphasised by giving me a splendid pair of heaving bosoms instead), and the only men that have ever shown interest in me were of the controlling variety. My family did not need anymore of those, thank-you!

My gay best friend! He was truly gorgeous and loved horses, just like me (I'm not gorgeous, just love horses!). It didn't occur to me to wonder how it would work considering he didn't like women 'that way'.
We lost touch and despite being in my 40's I still miss him.

Stephen Gately. I was in love with him as a teenager. I thought all the songs were somehow directed at me, wore out a particularly "sexy" dance move on my Boyzone video and had a poster of him on my wall which I kissed goodnight!
I then upped my ambition, when Stephen failed to notice me (in my Tammy girl halter neck top, aged 14, 40 rows from the front and definitely not his type) at a concert, to Prince William. A scheme to attend polo matches was made, sadly Kate beat me to him.

Celebrity wise I wanted to marry someoe with floppy nineties curtains, like Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Nick Carter or Leonardo DiCaprio. I realised this was unlikely so was convinced I would actually marry some bookish German professor like Jo March in Little Women.

Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Les McKeown of the Bay City Rollers but my mum said I had to marry Prince Andrew. Fortunately, neither of us got our way.

It honestly never even crossed my mind as a teenager. Marriage was for “old” people.

I thought the opposite - I didn't have anyone in particular in mind, but was confident I'd be married by 21, because married people snog, and people older than 21 snogging was repulsive!

I got married in my late 30s. Sometimes we snog 😂

John Taylor from Duran Duran

An utter wankpot of a City boy. The type I went on to date all through my 20s and early 30s.

Met DH at 35 who is the complete OPPOSITE of that, and I’m oh so glad. 🥰🥰

Blackbird2409 · 26/09/2026 23:05

Someone nice 😭 How wrong I was 😳

KojaksLollipop · 26/09/2026 23:14

My friend and I used to talk about getting married at 23 as it felt so bloody old, lol. As I got close to 23, I moved that to 30, as I got close to 30 I decided I didn’t really want to get married but thought I’d maybe do it in my mid 30’s, I was 37 and I cried the night before because I felt too young, even though our ds was 3 at the time ha ha! I glad I didn’t marry the arsehole I was seeing when I was 30, thats for sure!

I didn’t give any thought to WHO I’d marry though, lol

whippersnapper55 · 26/09/2026 23:21

I never thought about who I'd marry when I was a teen! I always said I wasn't getting married until I was at least 30 - then I met DH when I was 17, married at 18 and had our first baby at 19! Four more babies followed and we're still married 36 years later!

Nobody would probably know of him but a singer called Mark Gardener from the band Ride. Had the whole thing sorted. Did meet him and he is a very decent bloke.

I very embarrassingly mixed him up with someone from Radiohead at a party. When RH were flying and Ride floundering. He took it quite well.

She expected to marry her fiance’, she married him and we’re still together. ☺️

TobiasForgesContactLense · 27/09/2026 00:04

When I was 13 I was convinced that I was going to marry a boy called James who was the best friend of the boy who lived in the house opposite mine. My best friend was going to marry to boy who loved opposite me. We were both going to have 4 children! We did not even go out let alone get married.

But a year or so later I did one of those stupid quizzes that said I was going to get married to someone with the initial N. I could only think of a boy in my year called Neil who I was definitely not marrying so was horrified. However I did actually marry a man whose name started with N at the age of 18. I only remembered the quiz many years later!

Needless to say that first marraige didn't last long and 2nd DH has the initial M (so close enough).

karrabee · 27/09/2026 00:21

Someone. Anyone. But alas, I have married no one.

Besidemyselfwithworry · 27/09/2026 00:22

I had a boyfriend from 12-16yrs and I thought I’d marry him but we split up when we were both 16
im
now not bothered to be married we have all legalities in place I really can’t see the point of it all. I also feel I’d look ridiculous nothing worse than an older bride mutton dressed as lamb

Littletreefrog · 26/09/2026 19:08

No one. I was going to live on a tiny island or in a lighthouse or something and have about 5 dogs and several cats.

I wanted to live in a house in the forest, wheelchair be damned. I kind of still do. I've never been practical. But I did know I didn't want to be married.

keepswimming38 · 27/09/2026 00:59

No one. I was certain I wasn’t going to marry anyone but I’ve been married for 26 years.
