For those low or no contact with parents, what led to it?

If you have gone low or no contact with your parents, what were the reasons? How did you come to this decision, and was it difficult for you?

After you reached the point of low or no contact, did you feel guilty? Did your parents' reactions to you make you feel like you made the wrong decision?

Which newspaper or magazine do you write for?

You go first

Yeah if the parent can respond well to an adult child’s distress about their relationship then it doesn’t get to the estranged stage. So most of the time when it’s got that bad the parents act in all the ways that led to the estrangement because thats just what they do. It ain’t rocket science. Just imagine what any asshole does when they don’t get their way.

I found out how he (my shudder father) treated my wonderful mum before they divorced 35 years ago.
I found out about the abuse (financial and emotional) the affairs, the withholding of money for me and my brother.
Look up narcissistic in the dictionary and he’d be there…in all his vain glory.

He never contacted me or my brother or our kids, we’d always have to contact him. He treated someone we knew in such a horrifically hurtful way that I just could make sense of how anyone could be that cruel.

I cut contact with him and he made no effort to contact me. 6 years later and I don’t know if he’s even still alive. I quite honestly don’t care either. I hope if he is still alive, that he’s very lonely.
