Ongoing harassment from an abusive ex

Hello all, firstly thank you for taking the time to read this and secondly I apologise it’s so long, I’ve tried to make it as short as possible but I do have a tenancy to ramble so I’m sorry.

Back story, I was with my ex partner for just under 2 years. The relationship was horrific. Emotional and physical abuse, serial infidelity on his behalf and threats of unaliving every time I attempted to leave the relationship. For the past 3 years we have been separated he’s broken no contact countless times and I have stupidly allowed him back in my life with promises of changes EXCEPT those changes never happened. Whenever I was trying to in force no contact I’d be hounded with no caller ID, third party contact and flowers and emails and eventually give in. My ex was and is a pathological liar, he lied about his children, his age, his background and I blindly believed it. He also mirror traumatic events that happened to me and made me believe they happened to him to for what reason I don’t know.

No big even happened but something in my brain just clicked and I realised I didn’t want to have any communication with my ex, the gaslighting the lies the manipulation the threat of suicide was still there so I sent an email (I’d blocked him off all other platforms) outlining my reasons and attempted to move on.

This happened in May. Since then I have changed my number as was bombarded with no caller ID calls or third party calls. The next was fake social media accounts no only messaging me messaging my friends family even clients, so I took down all my social media. He’d send messages saying I was an OF model (no disrespect to anyone doing that work but I could never do that) Then came the emails. Please note I remained d SILENT. One of the emails he sent he advised that my son who died at births death was the fault of my negligence and I flipped my lid. I said some pretty unhinged stuff I won’t lie.

I’ve blocked him email address but I think me replying to the one email spurred him on so now I’m getting weekly messages. That state he’s getting a non mol on me (again I have replied to ONE message of about 100) or calling social services on me or ‘enjoy this last weekend with your kids there be taking soon’. I have no concern with social services I know I’m a good mum.

I’ve contacted the police. As he lives in a different country to me they advised to document everything but they’ve don’t nothing further and I can apply through the courts for a non mol. He was physically violent to me during the relationship but I never pressed charges as I believed I had provoked the reaction and he was always very sorry. I’ve also contacted the national stalking line. I don’t know how to close my email account. He’s also in a new relationship! In the beginning I did try and forward all the evidence to the new girl but just as I believed his ex was crazy he’s made her believe I’m crazy the crazy one. Today I received an email dated FORMAL NOTICE TO CEASE HARASSMENT AND DEFAMATORY CONDUCT which was clearly just chat GPT and another follow up email saying ‘I’ve contacted the police and ss’

I’ve contacted social services to make them aware but I have nothing to hide so a visit doesn’t unsettle me. But my nervous system is shot to pieces.

Any advice?

If he lives in another country and his only means of contacting you is by email, can you not block his email address? Or is he making new email accounts?

I don't know how to close an email account but can you make a new one and just start using that? Then not bother checking your old email account?

He is playing mind games as he is sending you a made up formal notice and he knows you will be reading all the emails he has sent and that’s how he keeps hooking you back. Make a new email address and Google how to delete your old one. Any flowers sent to you refuse delivery and any mail he sends burn it unread.

This sounds truly awful. If he's in a different country it is a case of just deleting his emails if you can't block him and set up a new account.
Reading them only adds to the harassment and want/ impulse to respond to him. Best you can do is just ignore him- not sure how effective a non molestation order if he's out if the country- any chance of him coming back?
I'm so so sorry this is happening to you x

this is the stalking and I am sorry that this is happening to you. I was also stalked by an ex and I encourage you to go as soon as you can to the police. I did that and even if there were no legal repercussions, he did stop (mostly). Do not engage with you stalker as this is what they want. Stay strong it is very difficult but you will get through

Back to the police with the new information. Never reply to him.

Don’t read them. Set up a function on your email address to send them to a folder.
