Awful Month

I feel incredibly stressed and overwhelmed. Since my husband met his new girlfriend and publicly announced their relationship, he has stopped talking to our two boys and left our home. Last week, he even publicly announced his relationship with her at a large party, while our divorce is still in process.

On top of everything, during a routine medical examination, they found a lump and recommended that I have a mammogram next week. Naturally, this has added another layer of worry and anxiety at a time when I already feel emotionally exhausted.

What hurts me the most is that I haven’t really been myself lately at work. I’ve made a few minor mistakes, but they have all been manageable and nothing serious. They already know what I’ve been going through, but honestly, it’s true that work has not been very empathetic or understanding of my situation.
One of the managers even told me, “It’s been a long time since you found out about your husband’s relationship. You need to move on already.”

That comment really hurt me. I understand that I still have responsibilities at work and that I need to do my best, but I’m going through an incredibly difficult period in my personal life. I feel so stupid and incapable.

In sorry you’re going through this, can I ask how long ago did you split?

Zoya1982 · 22/09/2026 13:13

Ok that’s not a long time, so was insensitve of him if you only split 5 months ago.

the sad thing is you can’t control his actions, it is his choice to not see his children and to announce a new relationship, he’s a shitty parent and irs hard when someone does this, but you can’t control it and can only focus on you.

how old are the kids?

@Stormyrose 6 and 9

Your manager obviously has no idea what it’s like to have a marriage end. It’s a process not an event and unfortunately from time to time during that process things happen that cause new pain.

I doubt very much that he never makes mistakes even without experiencing intense personal pain.

My goodness, you are going through so much and 5 months is really no time at all when the carpet has been pulled from under your feet like this.

A man who stops seeing his own children is a poor specimen and in time you will come to see this. Hard for you to imagine now but you will get through and be stronger because of it. It is you making the daily wheels turn for your children now and you should be proud of yourself for this.

4 years on from my STBX floating off thinking better things were waiting for him away from the family, had been unhappy for years, deserved to make things all about him, thinks are good for me and my kids (young adults). Better actually. He was a misery guts to be honest.

It takes time and I wish you every strength and support for the future.
