Radio 4 Woman's Hour interview on domestic violence and silent 999 calls

Just listened to an incredibly moving interview on Radio 4 Womans Hour with a woman (with her mum) who was subject to horrific domestic violence. Moved to tears by what she went through, by her strength in dealing with it and by the love between her and her mum.

Did you know that if you dial 999 and can't speak because you're in danger, after dialling 999 you can dial 55 and the operator will know?

The operator will ask you to press buttons, tap on the phone, make any sound in response to their questions to confirm you need help.

55 is fine but if you press #3 it'll still work - it doesn't have to be precise on the numbers for example, just the act of responding somehow.

I did 999 calls and police control work for over a decade - it's routine, sadly.
