Needing reassurance not to reconcile with ex after repeated cheating

Please someone talk some sense into me… I’m due on and alone tonight and all in my feelings as the children are with their dad who keeps trying to reconcile the relationship. I want nothing more than my family to be together and my children to have both parents at home, we get on well on the surface and have spent time together with the children and with mutual friends which is all very positive. However … this man repeatedly cheated on me and then denied it every time until I was physically able to provide evidence that I knew about this, and even then would deny or minimise what had happened. I KNOW I cannot resume this relationship because I cannot trust him but we are 18 months post breakup and it still feels as hard as it did on the first day. Any advice to get me out of my head and remember that this was the right decision, hold firm as it will never work in the long run, and be even messier for the children. Once a cheater always a cheater and all that?!!

He compromised your health.

Enough said.

Massive hugs to you.

That feeling of wanting to all be back together is natural and I'm in awe of you for sticking to your guns. But stick to your guns you must.

Don't think for a second that anything would change if you got back together. Once you show you're able to be coaxed into a relationship again, the chase will be over and your ex will turn on the charm for 6 months before he deceives you again.

So many of us have been down that road, convincing ourselves that the cheating partner has finally understood and changed...

No. Stick to your guns and you'll find someone else who makes you happy.

Thank you @hellomellow such a tough situation to be in, weekends are hard as I either have my children with me which I love but can be lonely when friends and family have their own plans and lives with their partners; or I don’t have my children which is so quiet and sad. I will get there but in my feels today!

Agreed. It can be very lonely. I was in the same position for a while, until I met my partner.

I'd literally clock watch until it was time for the kids to return. Very easy for people to say go out and make friends etc. When you're down and struggling with confidence, that isn't always possible.

The easy route is to give in and take your ex back, but you'd be constantly waiting for the next time he cheats, then you'll be in the same position again.

When the kids get older, things will get easier. Try to hold on to that.

He would hurt you again mentally. And who knows what disease he could bring to you.

He’s not a good man for doing this to you. It’s time to start nourishing yourself. Have you sought out any therapy in real life? There is a lot to do to build back your self worth and self esteem. You absolutely are worth so much more than the crumbs her can offer.

Your mental health and well being are your priority for you and your children. You will re-build a lifestyle that suits you and your kids and you will find freedom and happiness. Detach yourself from this drama. Move on, this man scores zero on every count of being a decent human being. Whereas you're a 10. No contest really.
