Missed all from an ex

This could well be a stupid post. However, im wracking my brains thinking about it.
Earlier today my phone rang. I looked at the call and it cut not so long after it rang. Maybe one ring and if went down before I could even get to it. Anyway. I rang it back and nothing. I then texted it saying hi, who is this please (as I run a tutoring business so it can be a client)
Then I went to shower and I had this weird thought come over me. I remembered the number from a few years ago, I typed it back into my phone and added the number. Checked WhatsApp to see if jt had a picture. It was my ex. My ex of 3 years ago who cheated, lied and sent me insane. My heart sank remembering everything he put me through yet I still loved him for ages after hoping we'd fix it. 3 years later I forgot he even existed.
I suppose this post was more of an off my chest post. Part of me genuinely doesn't understand how he could ring me. He clearly still has my number and you don't just press one button and it rings on iPhones. It's multiple. Or maybe it was an accident. But it's strange how that accident happens 3 years to the exact date we broke up.

i heard nothing after I texted who is this. I just find it odd. How can calling an ex who he blocked on every platform be a one click thing. It’s really not. I know I can move on im just confused

Block the number and forget about it. Nothing good can come of it any other way. You’ve moved on.

TalkToTheHand123 · 19/09/2026 13:00

I'd be too curious. I'd remind him of what he has thrown away as well.

PrettyTiger · 19/09/2026 13:25

It was probably an accident

GreyCarpet · 19/09/2026 13:30

Accident or not, it only rang once.

So he either thought better of it or wanted to create the exact confusion in you that he has done.

Presumably, you don't want to speak to him (you shouldn't) so just block the number.

It's possible he was calling to apologise. If so, do you need that apology? Absolutely nothing good would come from you speaking to him given the reason you broke up and so I'd just block and move on.

The last thing you need is a load of emotional crap from an old ex.

Really? After three years?

IME, exes get in touch like this for three reasons - to apologise, to mess with your head, or in hope you'll be up for no strings sex. Thats it. None of which are worth returning the call for after three years.

I think it’s probably a mistake.

I’ve tried removing/blocking/amending contacts on my iPhone, and several times I’ve ended up accidentally calling the number. It’s easily done, especially if you’re distracted.

I beg to differ. On an iPhone you can just click delete. The call option will not load unless you explicitly click the number. Clearly he was nosing at something to do with me

What's with the multiple threads on this @gloriousday34?! He misdialled. It's not that deep. Forget it and move on.

somanychristmaslights · 19/09/2026 13:46

Just block the number and forget about it.

Agatha1989 · 19/09/2026 13:46

It sounds like you really hope it was a deliberate call and he wants to rekindle your relationship. It’s much more likely to be an error and how do you even know he still has an iPhone? It’s been 3 years!

Snoken · 19/09/2026 13:56

I often pocket dial people when I have my phone in my back pocket. I managed to do a group video call with my mum, sister and my old dog trainer. I was just out walking and then I heard my sister calling my name, and then I heard her speak to my sister and I was looking around because I couldn't see them. I then realised it was all happening in my pocket. I also shared a contact with my mum's 82 year old partner, it was for a guy I went to school with 35 years ago. And this is just in the last couple of weeks. It does happen very easily somehow.

Are you looking for a reason to call him back? You appear to be determined to think it was deliberate.

if you knew how things ended then yoh wouldn’t say this. Hea blocked on my phone via instagram whatsapp I just didn’t know I hadn’t blocked calls. I have now but I suppose I was curious that’s all

If I was determined I’d get someone else’s phone and call or keep dialling. It’s okay im just saying I was curious. Like maybe I jus feel annoyed he even has my number after all he put me through

Agree.

I answered a call once from a woman I worked with. She only had my number due to a course we were both going on together: we shared one text over a year before, and had never spoken on the phone. I could hear her chatting to her DC.

So why don’t you block him?

flixbus · 19/09/2026 14:05

My job means I have contacts temporarily in my iPhone. When you go to delete or edit a number it’s red next to the number. Sooo many times I’ve clicked on the number when trying to delete it thinking I was in edit mode.

It’s clearly a mistake. He was probably cleaning up his phone!
