I have the opportunity to move cities (will keep it vague but from South England to north England) to move in with my partner of 1.5 years.
The time seems right for us to make leap and our quality of life would be so much better in his city: it’s a bigger city with much more to do, more opportunities, closer to different cities to explore and also a lot cheaper than where I am. I am also able to transfer my job to his city whereas if he moved to me he’d be starting again.
I’m 30, no children, I only see my friends once every 2-3 months as they’ve moved away or have families and I do live close to my family but really only see them every few months too. My quality of life has gotten so much better since meeting my partner, he’s kind and gentle but also pushes me to try new things that my anxiety would normally say no to. We’ve only had 2 ‘disagreements’ and really they were just us learning how each other communicates after both being alone for years.
Obviously we can’t do long distance forever and I really don’t think he’d be happy where I live, he thrives in the city he’s in. I’ve been so up for moving to him but now it’s getting real my brain is filled with ‘what ifs’ and what if I give up my house and then we don’t work and I have to start again? I’m just really scared of it going wrong and almost feel like my brain will self-sabotage. When I’m not anxious I feel so excited to change my life and experience a new city with person I love and see a future with but then when the anxiety creeps in I get really scared.
Has anyone else moved across the country and how did you find it?
