Adult circumcision question?

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 16/09/2026 15:23

My partner (40) is talking about getting circumcised.

I'm absolutely happy with his penis, but he has been looking on the internet and says that circumcised penises just look so much more 'neat and tidy'.

Apparently, he's never much liked his foreskin since his early teenage years.

I know it's a relatively simple operation, but I really don't think it's necessary.

Any thoughts?

STBXH had it done in his 30s. Was very painful, bled A LOT, and looked a bit frankensteiny for several years. Also very sensitive to chafing in pants for months. I don't think he'd recommend it unless medically necessary.

roseymoira · 16/09/2026 15:45

Why would he want to lose sensitivity there?

He would not be able to have it done on the NHS unless he met the criteria for medical intervention:

My son had it done by the NHS aged 7 for medical reasons over 30 years ago. I would not say it was a "relatively simple operation" at least not the procedure in use then and there are always risks associated with any medical procedure.

There is a forceps guided method using thermal cautery. You can watch a video of it being carried out here in a private clinic (35 minutes)

Partner had it done due to medical need 2 years ago. Since then he’s had several
issue with dry skin patches and he gets more tender due to underwear friction.

would not recommend for vanity.

SilenceLaySteadily · 16/09/2026 19:14

He's definitely looking at too many willies on the internet.

Nosdacariad · 16/09/2026 19:50

Ex partner had it done for medical need. It was fine but it can be imperfectly done which may cause issues.

Unexpectedlhereagain · 16/09/2026 19:54

I used to work on a day case unit, that did this procedure. It’s extremely painful afterwards and tends to bleed really easily.

Your DH will find it very difficult to find a reputable doctor to do this, purely for vanity.

IdaGlossop · 16/09/2026 20:00

Does your DH spend an abnormal amount of time looking at his penis?

OMGDidYouSayThat · 16/09/2026 20:10

I guess it’s up to him, if the skin is saggy or causing issues i could see why he might want to do it, but otherwise if you’re happy with it i don’t see a reason to go through the pain.

Unless you've been advised for medical reasons, I wouldn't go for any type of surgery (man or woman). Things go wrong, and ending up with sepsis after surgery (as people I know have) is one thing if your life's at risk, or if you were in agony after an illness, but imagine if things went wrong and it was pure vanity? And while I don't like the idea that some people feel pushed into facial surgery to "look right" for work, in the case of someone's genitals, it's not like many people are likely to see!

EarthSight · 16/09/2026 22:33

Unless it's causing him serious discomfort, he shouldn't be thinking about this. Infections do and can happen in hospital settings, and just imagine if it happened down there for him.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 17/09/2026 15:27

I had to have it done in my 30's for a medical reason. I'd advise against doing it for any reason than medical.

You can tell him that it hurts like buggery when it's done, and for a good few days afterwards. It will then continue to hurt on some level for a good week and a half.

After that he gets the delight of spending two months being constantly aware of the head of his penis feeling slightly uncomfortable as the very delicate nerve endings constantly come into contact with his boxers instead of the foreskin thats designed to protect them.

Don't worry though, because that eventually wears off. Unfortunately, the reason it wears off is because those nerves get used to the sensation, which makes sex feel more crap. Not spectacularly so, but enough that it's noticeable. I'd liken it to the difference in sex with a condom on vs. without.

If despite all that, he'd still like a more aesthetically pleasing penis, then let him have at it. I'd suggest he stop watching American porn in favour of more European stuff with non-mutilated todgers though, because I can't imagine where else he's getting this idea from.

😂very, very well written.

Surely the best way to view it is in an erect state!

All dicks look like the last chicken left in the shop when soft.

Don't agree.

I love his penis, hard or soft.

And a foreskin just gives you more to play with.

Hm. Very odd for him to want to have surgery on his penis (risking complications) that reduces the sensitivity, just in order to make it look surgically altered and less appealing than the average penis (although I agree with a pp that they all look a bit silly, especially when flaccid).

He clearly spends far too much time looking at penises online and rating their attractiveness. This sounds like some strange sort of body modification kink. Or possibly a deep insecurity based on watching far too much porn with messed up American penises.
