Left controlling husband and now doubting myself while staying with parents

so last week (Wednesday) I officially left my husband. I have fijwished with him. It has years of control, gaslighting manipulative behaviour and I do feel better.
but I am getting annoyed he is telling everyone I cheated on him. When I haven’t been he was the one with dating transactions on his bank statement. Even his dad doesn’t believe him.
I just don’t know how to feel. I feel lost like oh my god should I go back! Also I am living with my parents but took my son & dog with me and my dad doesn’t like dogs so I find very difficult like walking on eggshells. But I think that’s mind overthinking. I feel so bad then my parents life upside down
makes me want to go back I am so confused.

When and how are you going to get your own place?

Fiftyandme · 14/09/2026 21:17

He’s continuing to try to control you.
et him tell his stupid stories. Those who matter won’t believe it

Hang on in there. You've taken the big first step and have somewhere to live with your son and dog, even if it's a bit difficult at times. You will sort things out and get your own place if you persevere. It will get easier.

I came across this today. It’s helpful to remind you not to waste energy on things that aren’t in your control. Save it for what is- preparing to get your own place. Minimising your dog’s impact on your dad etc. Don’t spend it worrying about what your ex is doing and what his friends will think.

Well doneu've done the hardest bit. Just keep going, one day at a time, and you'll get there. It will be so worth it, I promise.

One step at a time. And leaving is the hardest one. To this day my exh shifts from being okay to being abusive and I have been divorced several years. I only now have minimal contact with him over DD matters. Him asking you to go back is normal mine did and he hates the fact I divorced him.
It is normal to feel for you to feel like that. But everyday is a step towards your new future.
Someone once said to me what would you say if your friend told you about your situation?
And I knew that it was to get divorced, it hasnt been an easy road but it has been the right road.
There are domestic violence charities out there who can offer you advice. It is good to reach out to them. A national one might be able to suggest a more local one
A local one in my area offers a course for women in similar circumstances and other help.

@Ejs890011 Stick with it, you’ve done the hard bit, you’re on your way to happiness again. Good luck, be strong 🤗

StabiaGirl · 16/09/2026 19:56

He's messing with your mind - that's the standard modus operandi. So you need to block him again and keep him blocked. Urgent contact can come through your parents.

somanychristmaslights · 16/09/2026 20:15

He’s massively trying to manipulate you. Do not fall for it. Write down in your phone notes every bad thing about him. And when you’re having doubts, read the list. Do not engage with him whatsoever unless it’s about the children. Keep messages short and factual about the kids, that’s it. Don’t let him back in.
don’t worry about what he’s saying to other people. He’s showing you he doesn’t care about you by lying. And I suspect people know what he’s like anyway so probably don’t believe him.
